re: CLAN ROOK

His claws clicked on a teacup as he poured himself some tea. Offering you a biscuit in one hand, and your own teacup in another, he slid down into his seat, blowing gently on the steam coming up from his teacup. After a little small talk, he offers you his fortune...

You have a light heart and a gentle demeanor, with no room for harshness. Or at least, this is how you curate yourself. While I am sure that you do not have any ill intention, I'm sure that you have a shadow that runs deep. Perhaps this is to protect yourself from those who would take advantage- which, fair. Still, the world needs more softness, and I believe that has a value.

Your warmth is invaluable. Protect it.

Lost during my journey to the Ashfall Waste, I found myself in the unfamiliar land of the Windswept Plateau. Having no knowledge as to where to go or what to do, I wandered around helplessly until I was spotted by one of the members of the Rook Clan and offered a place to stay for the night. Having no other choice, I readily agreed.

My first reaction to entering the clan’s home was that of shock, followed by awe and admiration. Dragons of the softest shades of green, pinks, purples, and blues were gathered around and enjoying themselves in the comfort of their home. As per myself, I stood out with my darker and brighter coat shades but they accepted me as part of their own nonetheless.

During my time within the Rook clan, I was in awe that the females were in the positions of utmost power and that the men were in charge of protection and caring for the clan. Never having witnessed such a system, I was elated that it all worked well and the system, quite possible, could spread to other clans. After all, both the leaders of the clan, Ophelia and Remy, worked extremely well to provide for the clan.

It didn’t take long for me to feel comfortable in their company and often wondered what it would be like to have been a wind dragon. Their soft and caring aura was contagious and I was distraught that I would have to continue my journey in the morn. I swore that I would come again. For now, I would enjoy myself in the stories told by the skillful words of storytellers beneath the moonlight.

When the morning arrived in its majestic sight of blue skies and morning breeze, many came to see me off. Their kind words and wonderful parting gifts made my heart soar as I bundled myself up for the journey. I knew that the clan would thrive and that I, too, would come back again to see the progress. For beneath the kind and gentle guidance of Ophelia and her silent, yet ever caring compatriot and friend, Remy, anything and everything was possible.

The foreign pearlcatcher regarded the tea his host had poured. It was perfectly done, as he had grown to expect from the residents of the Cloudsong. The children of Windsinger did so love their tea. He, of course, did not care what form his caffeine took so long as he could consume it while working, as befit a child of Stormcatcher.

The air was filled with the soft tinkle of chimes that seemed ubiquitous to the region. His hosts, Ophelia and Remy, read the proposal the pearlcatcher had brought from his own clan in the Shifting Expanse.

He sat back as they read, admiring the soft and bright colors of the Rook Clan dragons. That was always why he loved visiting the Windswept Plateau, really, the sheer amount of color and creativity. His own browns stood out against greens, blues, and purples as the wind-born dragons soared through the air.

That was really the reason he was here, to trade electronics for colorful fabrics. He had brought the finest clockwork samples along with the proposal, and he hoped he would successfully bring back textiles and trade.

"Well, this is certainly an interesting idea," Ophelia said with a smile, drawing the pearlcatcher's attention back to business. For a moment, the pearlcatcher thought his host was merely kind and friendly, until he noticed the sharp edge to her smile that screamed ruthless. He'd seen that smile on the face of his own boss many times, usually when someone was about to regret something. "However, we have a few changes."

He read through the changes the pair had made and swallowed nervously. These negotiations were going to be so much more difficult than he'd anticipated.

The clan remains an oddity.

They bear many aspects of others in the Cloudsong: the arts come as easily as laughter (which seems to lilt on every breath), and kites and songs and handspun lace weave among their homes in tribute of a deity that may never return. The air here is alive with movement. The everpresent breezes, surely, but the dart of a body here, a wingbeat there, a clan glowing with the sheer vivacity of life. Nothing so unusual, for those born under the Windsinger’s care – yet those of the clan of Rook carry a distinctive air about them.

Some pin it on mere appearances. Their beauty is of some renown, tales spreading of drakes bearing every hue, soft pinks and purples and greens with pelts unmarred and armor shining. Some believe it to be their crafts. Here there are lacemakers, carvers, archers, playrights, poets, all flourishing amidst the kites that give the region its patchwork splendor. Neither, however, is so distinct – beauty is found often in these parts, and the wind brings forth songs from every corner of Soreith.

Those born under different gods were thought ill to survive in the Cloudsong, yet here they thrive. The plates they live on are borne upon the wind, high enough that the ground beneath is dizzying in its distance, yet the plants still grow. In spite of the storms that scrub the land of naught but windswept grasses, here, flowers bloom, trees flourish, homes furnished of living wood and newborn petals rising toward the vastness of the sky, a celebration of tenacity in the face of what one would deem impossible.

One should expect nothing less, for a clan borne of a day dreamer and a child of prophesy, yet tales still spread. Those brave enough to cross the Crescendo to the paper lanterns and laughter of the Cloudsong may find them, a clan of differences, brought together with the sheer love for life.

A series of accounts.
entry written by dragonpals

If each moment was a still image, a frozen frame, they would be the picture of tranquil beauty, stately colors and elegant airs. Although there is some truth to this, although they are by all accounts all kinds of beautiful, life in Clan Rook is not beautiful because it is simple and still. Life in Clan Rook is beautiful because it is a whirl from one moment to the next, perpetually in motion, forever flowing through space and sound and time. In each individual, both unfathomable softness and inexorable strength.

They are children of prophecy, bound together not by blood but by a belief in their ability to shape a better future. Together.

Flower petals swirl in an everchanging breeze. Wings of the same color are carried in its constant embrace. It is a garden in the skies, a canvas of pastel sunsets - always changing, yet always there.

It is a unique kind of peace here. It is the tranquility of knowing that nothing remains the same, but that each new gust of wind brings new opportunity, new beauty, new friends. The past is not to be forgotten, but the true treasure lies the future.

A traveler passes through a haven of colors, a dream of kind days and soft nights. A dream of warm tea and warm hearts. A dream of endless stories and dancers who fly amongst flowers and light. Yet it is not a dream, but a place so exquisite that only a dream could have produced it.

Will you dream with us?

Soft hues and softer hearts.

In the Windsinger’s Domain flies Clan Rook. A traveler’s home, the clan exists in perpetual motion, riding the breeze along the currents of the Cloudsong. Stories swing through the air as dancers snake together. Lilies and blossoms bloom in color echoed by the dragons who care for them. Each and every soul that rides the wind rides together.

Clan Rook is known for its unconventional, matriarchal society. Ladies tend to travels and diplomacy while the fellows are home-makers and hatchling-tenders. Though any who feel the call of the breeze can find themselves at home within Clan Rook, regardless of their preconceived notions of rules and what-should-bes. Focus instead on the what-could-bes and join the clan focused on the far future, where all fly together under one song.
