The Blind Queen

But that would not stop her. With the help of two fellow hatchlings her age, she took the first tentative steps to rejoining her clan as more then just a blind dragon with no hope. She started small, learning the lay of the cave that her clan had roosted in. Then she began to branch outwards, using the echos of the silent cold forest. Being so young helped, allowing her senses to grow stronger as she used them more. She learned to hunt by sound and scent alone, learned to fight by being quicker and sharper witted then her opponents. It took time, discipline and stubbornness but she earned her place, first as a runner and then as a ShadowStalker. Runners delivered messages among the clans of the Murkwood, relayed battle reports and helped to keep the clan running. ShadowStalkers are the clans Elite Assassins, led by Queens daughter at the time. Shiva took interest in the stubborn, blind little dragon and taught her the ins and outs. And eventually offered Specter a position under herself, as she'd groomed her for command. |

As anything, it took time, like teaching herself a new life without sight, she was forced to rule a clan so blinded by it's grief and needs that they had to learn a new way of life. She reformed the clan and brought them back into the glory they'd held so tightly before that. The first few years were rough, forcing the clan to take to her rule and bringing it back to where it was, many rebelled, many were killed to keep the peace. But it worked, the clan came to realize that there would be no dethroning this queen. Specter ruled now, and there was no going back. Now she and her clan struggle to re-obtain the trade and power foothold they'd once had. The clan is ready to reenter the world, and Specter will lead them to prosperity. |
