When Abyssal was first born, he was taught that Plague was about disease, rot and death. He grew up hating, despising the element he was born into. His family, however, forced him to the annual pilgrimages to the Wyrmwound and taught him to use his magic to create nasty, killer diseases. He hated every second of it. At the moment he was first able to go out into the world on his own, he left, leaving everything he was behind. Abyssal had nowhere to go and despite remembering hating the annual trips, traveled to the Wyrmwound. Upon reaching the Wyrmwound, he immediately began to regret the decision. He didn't want to see more death and destruction! As he was leaving he crashed right into an elderly Mirror who's eyes shown with youth despite her years. Now, as he sat in the quiet wood, bowstring drawn taught and an arrow ready to fly at his prey he could recall her words perfectly. "Plague isn't about death or decay, it is about survival against all the odds. It is about living from day to day and showing Death that it cannot take you. It is about resources and life. And yes, death may be a part of life, but it is all so that it can give life in return. Never take a life without needing it, never take a life without trying to better another's. Never take life selfishly. Because, if you do, you are feeding the misconception about Plague. We are life and survival, not needless death." As he released the arrow, he felt time slow down as if in slow motion. The shot was perfect. Fast, straight and heading right for orange Chimera's heart. Abyssal had been hunting this beast for a few weeks now. It snuck into various clans all around the area and had ravaged nurseries and food stores, he had been hired (and paid quite a handsome sum) to track it down. Yes, the shot was perfect, calculated exquisitely. What he couldn't account for was the Skydancer that came sprinting through the woods right in the path of the arrow. She wasn't even paying attention and Abyssal doubted she even knew he was there. She was looking behind her, fear evident on her face as she came running by. He felt too slow to stop it, the arrow was already in motion. She looked, just in time to see the arrow coming towards her. her eyes grew wide and then- She vanished. His prey snarled and ran away into the underbrush. And Abyssal just stood there, wondering what the Wyrmwound just happened. |
