As your talk with Seabound draws to a close, you find yourself invited into the house to meet his mate. Slipping inside the door, you enter a startlingly spacious grand room. There are a few lounging chairs pushed against the wall, many stunningly rendered artistic depictions of landscapes hung over them. Peering upwards, you realize there is no ceiling to speak up, rather a series of balconies on the different floors until the roof stretches over the entire house. At the very top you spy a collection of swirling rocks strangely resembling the Platforms you explore at the moment. Seabound calls up into the sky, and a moment later a Skydancer flutters down from the top of the house.
“Ah, a guest,” The Skydancer begins, eyeing you cautiously with a glance at Seabound, “My name is Starshot, clan tactician. I… is there something you need?”

Life as a hatchling for Starshot was insignificant by most dragons’ standards, but for a Skydancer was telltale of a curious disease. Though they didn’t know it at the time, they were suffering from an inability to read others auras as most Skydancers could. Because of this, they were often left out in the cold--metaphorically--as they would offend others in one way or another and have no idea, thus showing no guilt. Add to that their general inability to read body language and it was a recipe for social disaster. With few friends to speak of, Starshot felt themself grow lonelier and lonelier. Eventually, they cut what few ties they had in the clan and left, wandering aimlessly and alone.

They traveled across the land at large, trying to figure out what was wrong with them. They spent the days observing others and searching for friends, retiring to inns and taverns for nights. They took advice from all sorts of dragons, opened themself up in the only way they knew how, and yet… Starshot remained alone. They were close to giving up when a mercenary group passed by their current inn of residence, and they gave one last shot to making friends. Among the gruffer and thick skinned mercenaries, Starshot found their inability to read other dragons less of an issue, allowing them to form at least passing friendships. Soon enough, they befriended Seabound, another mercenary, and--with his help--realized their lack of skill in reading body language did not extend to battles. They quickly became known as a tactician of great skill, able to read battles as quick as they came. Finally, they weren’t alone.
When it finally came time for Seabound to leave his nomadic life--and the painful memories of Ember--behind, Starshot didn’t hesitate to follow him. They left in the dunes of the Shifting Expanse, flying through the storm until they found a clan willing to take them. The Galestorm Flyers were always welcoming new warriors and found themself in need of a tactician as well. It didn’t take long for them to settle into their new home, though Starshot still expected the usual indifference or hatred of their presence in the clan. What they didn’t expect was, at the first sign of frustration from a clanmate, the clan healer Serasorth to offer them an answer to what had plagued them for their entire life. Starshot was sick, in a way. Their gemstone was cracked and wounded, unable to bring dragon’s emotions to them as other Skydancers could. Though there was no cure for such illness, Starshot was overjoyed to at least have an answer, particularly since it mitigated the frustration their clanmates felt at their occasionally cruel actions.

From then on, Starshot resided as a loyal clanmate of the Galestorm Flyers, working as an excellent tactician alongside their husband. When the Flyers chose to leave the Shifting Expanse for the Plateaus, they followed without hesitation, recalling the familiar kindness many of the Wind dragons showed to them, even before they could mitigate their rudeness. After a life of loneliness at their expense, Starshot had finally found a home that welcomed them without question, and it couldn’t feel any better.

With their illness affecting their gemstone, Starshot can easily be characterized as a cold and uncaring dragon based on outside perception alone. Most dragons find them to be more like a Fae than a Skydancer, speaking in short, clipped, and brusque tones, often causing offense as they don’t filter their statements. They are never outright aggressive, mostly simply subtly rude and uncaring for others discomfort and upset. Many clanmates struggle to maintain cordial conversations with Starshot and simply keep conversations short and clipped, brief and to the point to avoid unnecessary upset. Even knowing their actions are partially caused by the illness of their gem, Starshot cannot help but remain frustrated at the loneliness and isolation that surrounds their nature, despite it being completely unintentional. Still, through dedicated observation and careful note taking, Starshot has managed to cultivate a few close relationships within the clan.
Of all the dragons in the Galestorm Flyers, Seabound is easily the one Starshot is closest with, mostly because he is their husband. Having met in the mercenary guild Seabound originally resided in, Starshot finds it easier to communicate kindly with Seabound than most others due to his thicker skin and deeper understanding of their nature. Seabound’s patience when dealing with Starshot’s emotional inexpierence allows them to feel more comfortable in his presence, particularly when he calmly explains how he is feeling rather than rely on their interpretation of things they don’t really understand. Starshot relishes in their ability to assist Seabound in his work, often going on monologues of various battle tactics for Seabound to use. Inamu gets a similar if more isolated experience, as Starshot considers them a coworker and friend and therefore spends a lot of their time trying to help Inamu plan his battles. Though Inamu has less patience for Starshots unintentional rudeness, the Pearlcatcher has enough experience with XingTian to understand that it is unintentional and therefore does his best not to take things personally. Negasa is a strange case of friendship and mentorship for Starshot, as the teahouse owner has always excelled where they have failed. Often they will spend long hours in their teahouse, the conversation flipping between Starshot’s rambling tactics and Negasa’s quiet teachings on how emotions work. Starshot has always appreciated the kindness Negasa has shown even in the face of their rudeness, especially since they have strived to teach Starshot some of the things they are missing.
