Biography
Seabound The Guard |
After a relatively brief conversation with Echo and Mourn in their outpost, you head back to the Platforms where the majority of the Flyers reside. On the edge of the mass of floating islands is a relatively unassuming one covered with soft green grass. Landing on it, you find the island to be rather open; the far end has a leaning wooden house, far taller than it is wide, while the rest of the space is devoid of major structure. There is a small table built out of an old tree trunk, next to which are several empty flowerpots and a closed wooden chest. A sandy circle is set on the opposite side of the table, with a bamboo weapon rack just beyond its boundaries. As you approach the house, a blue Skydancer emerges, decked in brilliant blue armor and carrying a large trident.
“Hello there, I am Seabound, one of the guards here” The Skydancer says, seemingly unsurprised at your appearance, “How can I help?” |

Origins
|
|
Despite Seabound's somewhat dangerous occupation, he was raised in a kind, loving, and encouraging home clan in the Viridian Labyrinth. His childhood was one of peace and joy, and when it did come time for him to leave it was not out of malice, fear, or disaster, but rather the call to arms by the dragons he saw suffering in the world beyond his clan. His first attempt on living on his own was disastrous; Seabound was grossly under prepared and nearly ended up six feet under after numerous mistakes. So Seabound returned to the clan, patient in his endeavors, and consulted with a retired warrior to train him.
Seabound trained alongside an older hatchling, Ember, working to gain survival and fighting skills to allow them safe departure from the clan. By the end of their training, they could effectively fight in any war and had developed a close friendship, so they chose to find a new home together. They searched out a nomadic mercenary tribe to join, wanting to work as freelancers for the time being, hoping to do some good in the world. Not long after they joined, Ember got Seabound his trident, as a reminder of how hard they worked to arrive at this place. Seabound was ecstatic and touched, immediately treasuring the gift without question, not knowing a mere week later and Ember would be gone, leaving only a trident in his wake. Ember was sent on a solo mission to the Sea of a Thousand Currents, but they were unfamiliar with the terrain and got hopelessly lost, never to be seen again. Search parties were sent out with Seabound leading them, but nothing was ever recovered. |
Seabound, though silent in his grief, felt the loss at his core, slowly coming to terms with the loss of his closest friend. He mourned in the privacy of his own tent, though continued to take jobs and work as a mercenary, clinging to his hope of helping the dragons of the realm. However, Seabound never dealt with his pain, and instead it lay festering until an elder dragon hired him. It was a simple job: protect the aging nurse while she gathered herbs. Seabound was content to be a silent protector, avoiding conversations with the elder, but she realized how hurt Seabound was. At the end of his job, Seabound received a well made and stunning set of claws alongside his payment, a note of humanity tied neatly to one wrist. It was a message, and a sign.
Seabound continued as a freelancer mercenary, but made it custom to accept payment in the form of armor or weaponry--every piece he currently wears was a gift from one charge or another. Though it took some time, Seabound eventually ended up at the Galestorm Flyers, where he was offered a permanent job as a guard. Seabound saw it as a chance to repair himself, and accepted gratefully. Overtime, he and the tactician Starshot fell in love and became mates, the two Skydancers bonding over their shared work on the battlefield. When it came time to move to the Windswept Plateau, Seabound had no problems. He knew that, despite Wind’s carefree temperament, there was work for him in any part of the world, and so long as Starshot was by his side he could adjust to anything. He just couldn’t leave someone so close to him behind again. |

On the surface, Seabound seems to be a level-headed warrior with little regard for close relationships or friendly conversation. Those that only take a moment to see Seabound find this to be accurate--Seabound is more curt and formal with strangers, maintaining a distance in hopes of mitigating hurt should they leave as Ember once did. He doesn’t go off on tangents in conversations, though he has been known to mince his words should he read the situation as requiring it. However, beyond that, Seabound is a fiercely protective dragon, willing to die for what he believes is right while also maintaining a kindness a hope many lose in war. He chooses to find the light in the dark, looking for something good to cling to as a lifesaver, as difficult as that may be at times. Most of this kindness is projected outwards in small ways--little words of encouragement or acknowledgement most often--as Seabound is a fragile soul. He holds his emotions close to his heart, hiding them from most everyone, yet refusing to leave anyone else suffering as he does.
