Trifle

A complaint, overheard.

Truffle is so bossy these days. Do you think she likes someone else more than she likes me? She couldn't; we're the same. But she hasn't let me be Truffle in so long. Sometimes I'm scared I'll be Trifle forever. What if I've always been Trifle?

Of course I know who I am! Today I'm Trifle. Weren't you listening? And who are you? Enyo, Enyo, Enyo. You say that's who you are, but are you sure? Why wouldn't it be a game? Everything's a game if you're Trifle. Everything's a joke. Ha ha!

Say, do you think she likes being Truffle? But no one likes being Truffle. Everyone wants to be Trifle. That's why we made the deal.

Enyo, come back. Enyo! So sour!

I think that sometimes ... I don't want to be Trifle.





Trifle of the witches nine.

Trifle and Truffle joined the clan during the arduous journey from the Gladekeeper's green forests to the ash-burnt woods of the Flamecaller. Why they joined the clan, even they won't say. Plague-born and peculiarly minded, they kept to themselves for long months till they announced, together, that they would be happy to stay. As members of the witches nine, Truffle and Trifle may weigh in on the mystical matters of the clan. Although they are not leaders, each sister has a modicum of legal power.

Hardly serious and willfully flighty, Trifle has earned the ire of many a dragon in the clan. She likes her jokes and she doesn't care if they're kind. Enyo of the witches nine thinks that Trifle is acting out because she fears she's losing the closeness she once shared with Truffle - but Enyo also thinks Trifle is a brat. Enyo isn't wrong.

Trifle is madly in love with Enyo. Currently she believes the fluttering in her chest a symptom of indigestion.
