"I don't want to understand it! I don't even want it!" Her hands trembled in tight fists at her sides, her face flushed red as she looked between the worried faces of her parents. They were at a loss for what to say, accepting the reality of defeat at getting a word in with their upset daughter.

"Althea... we just want you to be safe," her father reached a hand forward to her, but the young girl quickly dipped away from his touch. Shaking her head, she turned away from them, storming out of the house with the door closing behind her. It was dramatic, but as is the way of teenagers. Weaving her way through the market, her sights were set on the training grounds.

When she arrived, there were few who were spending the sunny day under the cold gaze of the General, Giske. Her parents were persistent she visit with the clans magic tutor, having been blessed with the arcana in a family of swordsman and archers. Her sister was an exception, though her magical abilities were bestowed upon her by some musty old book. Althea was the freak.
