"Understand that the world can be cruel, you must learn to push back against the things that wish to knock you down my son. Though it doesn't matter how many times you fall, it matters how many times you're able to lift yourself back up."

His father smiled wistfully at the setting sun as a warm breeze made the tall and pale blades of grass across the expanse dance like the waves of the Tidecaller's sea. It was such an early memory though it was one that Rikki held as he aged. He was raised in nothing but love, his parents perhaps held onto their son a bit too tightly after another egg of his batch was prematurely stolen away from them. He choked on their love at times, wanting freedom and to explore the fields that surrounded their small territory.

He grew to love the scouts that ventured days on end to distant lands in search of resources or potential danger. They understood freedom. Rikki by no means loathed his parents nor the warm place he was raised, he loved his home and couldn't think of a better place to spend his days learning to walk before he could run. He clutched onto the tales his father and the clan leader told of their reckless days of adventuring and danger, dreaming of a day where he too could experience such stories of his own.

He grew close to a scout who wielded a bow, the elegance of it's curvature and the snap of the string making his blood rush as he shot his first arrow. Of course it missed though it awoke something inside of Rikki that perhaps had always been there. He leapt at every chance he had to watch the archers practice, often getting shooed away because the training fields were no place for a clumsy hatchling. His father was no fool, he knew of his son sneaking away to admire the bowmen from afar. Of course he allowed his son to have this secret passion he believed to be so expertly keeping to himself, he felt it wrong to take such a sweet thing away from him.

The seasons changed and the end of summer came to Interstellar, with that the Starfall Celebration commenced. All dragons partook in the merriment of their holiday: dancing to the music played by the clans musicians, drinking and eating, telling tall tales of exaggerated adventures, and also giving gifts. It was nothing unlike Rikki had seen the year prior, though as the night came to an end and the small family of 6 returned to their home, Bawx pulled his eldest son aside. He then presented him a long rectangular box wrapped in white with a bow that mimicked the sky. "I trust you to be responsible," He did his best to use a stern father voice, though it was pointless with the smile on Bawx's face.

The skydancer carefully opened the box, his heart beating hard as he pushed the lid off and inside lay an oak bow carefully made and set in the midst of tissue paper. His eyes welled with tears as he looked to his father, who to much of his surprise also had watery eyes. Rikki admired the weapon, it was the most beautiful bow he had seen. Nothing like the ones the woodworker offered in his shop, no this wasn't something so regularly crafted here at the small arcane clan. It had been made special, just for him.

Months passed and his love for archery only grew as he spent hours out of his days practicing in the training fields when they were unoccupied. Rikki stood under the blazing summer sun, the change of autumn, in biting winter winds and in the midst of a spring bloom drawing arrow after arrow until every one hit its mark. He then ventured as a scout, having joined into his clans ranks once he was old enough. His father worried, though he knew there was no convincing his son otherwise. His newfound taste for freedom was all he could have ever wished it to be, he found himself excited to leave home on treks passed the Arcanists boarders into land he had not yet seen. Though week after week away from his cozy clan made him homesick, his love for adventure not quite overcoming the place Interstellar occupied in his heart.

He ventured far to the Viridian Labyrinth on an excursion to find more plant fodder for Interstellar stock, though as he scouted alone, voices perked his ears. He crept closer, stepping over small twigs and dead leaves to silence his footsteps. A harpy shrouded in black held a claw to a smaller dragons throat, the pearlcatcher entirely at mercy with no weapons to defend himself. He tried his best to listen in on what the creature was saying, though only portions were caught by his ears.

"You know who sent me?... You had heard... I was hired... It's nothing personal..."He frowned as the dragon pleaded and sputtered for his life, tears staining his cheeks as the Harpy cackled and pressed her claw harder on his neck to silence his pleas. Rikki slowly raised his bow, drawing the string back on steadfast calloused fingers. He took a deep inhale in, held onto it as it burned his lungs and screamed to be released. Rikki allowed the breath to draw from his mouth, slowly and quietly until his lunch felt completely empty. Using his foot to step on a nearby twig, The harpy whirled her head in his direction and just as they met eyes; he loosed the arrow.

The pearlcatcher now free of the harpys clutch looked in Rikki's direction, his lips quivered to form some type of thanks though he fell to the ground before he could choke out the words. Rikki carried the faint dragon back to his squadron, explaining what had happened and getting congratulated for taking down the harpy so quickly. Once the pearlcatcher regained his consciousness, he was pressed for questions, mainly why a beast had been hired for his head. Rikki listened as the stranger explained, though he was quiet he felt a bit of remorse for the unfortunate fellow who had been at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Upon returning to Interstellar, the Pearlcatcher known as Kanon remained close by to Rikki, a bit nervous in such a new place full of strangers. He followed him to the training fields and in an attempt to make his presence more useful, Rikki attempted to show him how to use a bow. Though Kanon was terrible at it, he would never admit it. Rikki enjoyed the new company, having someone to chat with was a pleasant change from always being alone. He found himself looking for Kanon's company, often making free time to spend with him to show him around the clan and introduce him to its many member. Perhaps this was what love felt like.

"Live for the howl, live for the hunt,
Live for the arrow and honesty blunt,
Live for the summer nights hot on the trail,
Live for the trophies and live for the tale.

Practice the bow til talons are split,
Practice until every target is hit,
Practice so that the clan can be fed,
Practice for lives that hang from a thread.

I run beside wolves as I hunt all alone,
I run to save innocents from death under stone,
I run to realize what I have neglected:
I run for the oaths that I have collected."
