The Shrieking Wilds | Chaotic Neutral | Trade Hub
A strangely Plague-influenced Nature clan located within the Shrieking Wilds, about midway between The Gladeveins and The Behemoth. In the twisting jungle that is the Shrieking Wilds, it makes a good way point and rest stop for a wary dragon, or those who might not want to travel any further into the Gladekeeper's domain. |
From the stories I've heard, The Creakwood has always had some Plague influnces. Deep below the largest of the great white-barked creakwood trees, there's a sickly pool that looks quite a bit like the Wyrmwound itself. Including the bone-like spurs jutting up from the pool and it's banks. Some of the roots of the tree climb right down into the pool itself. It's suspected that the pool is a remnant of the Third Age, when the Gladekeeper and Plaguebringer were fighting so violently across the landscape of Sorneith. It seems the Plaguebringer imprinted here hard enough that there's a little bit of Plague magic mixed in with the Nature magic so prevalent.
The area was largely avoided by Nature dragons, due to the influences of Plague, making it a particularly savage part of the Shrieking Wilds by most accounts. It became known as the home of King Sparaxis and his Garden of Briar Banshees, as well as some of the more dangerous creatures of the Viridian Labyrinth. Neith and a small pack of other wildclaws native to the Scarred Wasteland eventually felt some degree of pull towards this little part of the Shrieking Wild and made their way through the darkened jungle. Feeling the Plaguebringer's influence around them, they decided to settle there. When a number of roming Nature wildclaws encountered Plaguings so deep in the Viridian Labyrinth, even in such an undesired location as Creakwood, of course it turned to fighting. The wildclaws decided to solve things swiftly and simply, however. The leaders of the two packs would clash, and whoever came out on top would have say over how everything turned out. And thus, Neith and Achlys fought. The Plague wildclaw came out on top, though barely. Her solution was an unexpected one; she invited the Nature wildclaws to stay in the area with them and challenged them to grow stronger. To thrive in the face of adversity rather than only growing in the tame, safe environments often offered. As she put it, gnarled trunks are just as important in a forest as straight growing trees. This was the beginning of the Creakwood clan. |
While one might have expected the area to stay quite wild and savage under the care of a pack of Plague and Nature Wildclaws, instead Neith and Achlys has encouraged careful taming of certain areas of the Creakwood. The clan has become known as a relatively safe route through this particular stretch of the Shrieking Wilds, and a fair way-stop for any dragon seeking to become stronger before continuing on to other places. This means the actual number of dragons who are part of the clan at any given moment fluctuates a tremendous amount, with traveling dragons staying to train with the permanent residents and traders taking a rest in the safety of the clan making up a large number of those around. |
A number of Blightbound under the leadership of Akamas have come to call the area home as well, pulling their weight within the clan. Until very recently, Void called the area home as well, using the trading hub as a headquarters for the Spitewood Flock. She has since left the area, and it's now considered simply an outpost of Spitewood, as far as the Eboncrows are concerned. Vahriinkest, son of Vulon, now leads the Crows of the area in Void's stead and maintains Spitewood's presence in Nature, as a number of their alliances rely upon their connections to the Viridian Labyrinth. Finally, it is common to see Miths, Great Owls, and Talonok within the Creakwood clan's territory, the beastclans and Neith having come to a beneficial, symbiotic agreement some time back. |

The Creakwood dragons have few true enemies within the area, with other draconic clans seeing the benefit of allowing the mixed Plague and Nature Wildclaw clan dominate the area, and keep it (to some degree) tamed. This says nothing of the Serthis clans that lurk in the shadows of the Shrieking Wilds, with the "Nests of the Blossom" being perhaps the most prominent and problematic of them. The dragons of Creakwood have little clue how large the Blossoms are, but know their nests are dotted throughout their territory, and a wider portion of the Shrieking Wilds. Fortunately for them, when the Blossoms splinter and reform every so often, a small number of the Serthis end up abandoning their brutal way of life and seeking refuge with the dragons, providing them with valuable information about the current status of the Blossoms. In return, the deserting Serthis is treated to the more "fair" concept within Creakwood of "Survival of the Fittest, but everyone deserves their chance to be fit." |
More of Creakwood's... difficulties come with the environment they've decided to call home, and the beasts and monsters that also live within the Shrieking Wilds. They could almost be called "dire" versions of the expected familiars, and some seem to be infected with a touch more of the Shade, making them quite a good deal more dangerous... |
There are also strange rumors of a wildclaw lurking in the area, but none of the scouts or hunters seem to have ever encountered them...
N E I T H: Plague Wildclaw and head of the Clan, she definitely embodies the idea of Survival of the Fittest and encourages a more Plague mindset among the dragons of the Clan. |
A C H L Y S: A Nature Wildclaw who eventually fell for Neith, he is the more Nature aligned of the pair and offers a more tempered response than his mate. |
V I T H E C: A foundling who was initially permitted within the clan on Ormi's word, and later proved his own worth in combat. |
