H A T C H - D A Y
Aerona was meant for greatness the moment she hatched from her egg. Mighty and determined the very second she forced herself out of the egg, kicking and screeching, demanding her presence known to the clan - to the world. Her soul was made of Ice Fire, flickering and brilliant, strong and beautiful, but deadly. Confidence exuded from the young hatchling and she basked in the fact of being first hatched out of the 4 Iced Eggs. For just a week, Aerona was the only hatchling her parents, Borealis and Noelle had and her mother smothered her with love, whilst her father eyed her with icy calculation. But what was wrong with Aerona's wings? They appeared to look like crystal, much like her mother, however, they were freezing to the touch. Like that of pure ice and snow. Not like the crystal look, but soft leathery texture Noelle sported. Was she flightless? Could she not fly? That was Borealis' thoughts as he passed her off as defective.

Aerona continued to grow stronger, bolder, more confident and surpassed her siblings in most subjects through sheer effort and willpower, for she could not stand to lose to the arrogance of her only brother, Kaizen, who was naturally more gifted than her. She proved to be more of her father, with his cold demeanour and strived for perfection. But she received her mother's openness, her boldness, but also her honourable and dutiful side. Aerona was definitely no slacker; always pushing herself for perfect results. She excelled in fighting, despite still never having flown with her stiff frozen wings, even after almost a year. She was all but ignored by her father when it came to requests to join the Night Guard under him, for he could not risk taking a flightless dragon. But it pushed the young Tundra to try harder, train more. It was her brother, Kaizen, who was taken under their father's wing to join the Night Guard and it infuriated Aerona. It didn't take long before the rage, simmering in her Ice Fire of a soul, was too much and she challenged her brother. Cocky and arrogant, Kaizen readily accepted.

However, Borealis was quick to step in and shut down the match and, turning on Aerona, he told her not to be such a child. That she could never be a Night Guard with her wings. It cracked her icy heart into a million pieces and she left without a word. Feeling lost and with no direction, Aerona wandered the clan grounds for weeks, ignoring her training, her desire to try had melted away with her father's words. It was during those days that she happened to run into Heilin, Diplomat and the dragon to hold the 5th seat in the clan's council. They spoke no words after Aerona didn't answer his greeting, just stared at her furred paws. But the Wildclaw eyed her intensely before he suddenly grabbed her, demanding she come with him. Unsure and wary, but having no energy or will to put up a fight, Aerona went with him without a word. And there he took her to see a female Coatl named Sonoda; the Ice Witch of the clan, along with her Tundra friend, Akisara, a dragon of the Mystic Arts. A few quick words Aerona didn't bother to listen to, the female dragons stepped toward her.

The two females circled her slowly, eyeing her like they could see right through her, making the young dragon nervous. Then they went off to whisper between themselves as Heilin stood beside her, a hand on her neck to both calm her and keep her in place. For she certainly wanted to bolt. When Tundra and Coatl finally came back, they were grinning from ear to ear as they watched her carefully. "Aerona, my dear," Heilin said from beside her after a nod from the Coatl, "we have good news," he looked down at her with calm eyes. "You can still fly yet!" Not flightless at all, she was told. But a dormant, powerful magic resided in her, even from hatch day. So potent and overwhelming, it had leaked out in the form of ice around her wings. All she need to his harness her power and control it at will. And so, spirit awakened once again, Aerona started her training again. However, every day, she would also visit Sonoda and Akisara, often accompanied by Heilin, and visited frequently by other magic users who helped her learning. A quick study and diligent student, Aerona had full control over her magic by the time she was 2 years of age, unfreezing her wings once and for all. From there, Heilin taught her, in secret, to fly! Soaring through the skies was everything she had imagined, and more!

The duel fast approaching, Aerona grew more and more confident as she trained harder, pushed herself beyond her limits, hiding the fact the she could finally fly. She ignored her father's relentless questions, but relished in her mother's affection and worry. She only needed one parent's love in her mind. Finally the day of the duel came. Despite Kaizen having trained directly under their father, Aerona had trained under many dragons from the clan, having wanted to broaden her knowledge of fighting. Kaizen thought he had the upper hand over his sister, however. she couldn't fly, after all! But Aerona was quick to shock him - and everyone else who believed she was a flightless defective - by leaping into the air with a powerful beat of her wings and and tackled him mid air. Having been caught off guard, Aerona swiftly won the battle over her brother and declared the victor. Proud and wanting to see and rub it into her father's face, Aerona had turned to look directly at him. Only to freeze at the sight of her father weeping. For he had kept his eldest daughter at wing's length all this time, not wanting to put her on the front lines of battle. Her being flightless had allowed him to keep her out of the guard - and the army - without having to voice his fears. Now he had no legitimate excuse to keep her out of the guard. So, much to his dismay, he was forced to accept her into the Night Guard. Though the deed was done with how he had treated her. Their relationship is forever irreparable. But Aerona's hatred toward her father has driven her work harder and quickly climb to ranks to lieutenant in the Night Guard, despite Borealis' efforts to keep her from a standing of power.
