“Hey! Did you hear about this yet?”

It happened one dusty day where the Wastleland Scrub meets Carrion Waste, the location of CrestHaven. Raimi was on one of her usual mail runs, on her way to the clan’s healer, Quentin, when she saw an odd sight in out of the corner of one of her eyes. In a poor attempt to stop, Raimi actually went airborne and did a few somersaults before coming to a complete stop. After shaking the dust off her shimmering scales, she bothered to look up and seek that the dark object that had originally caught her eye now towered above her.

The object was an imperial. Like herself, Wendigo had obsidian scales and a runic pattern, something she’d never seen before. The first thing out of her mouth was about a thousand questions, who he was, what he was doing there, why his wing was so badly hurt, why had he been trying to to fly on it. Instead of answering, Wendigo simply walked away. When Raimi tried to follow, she found that she had injured her leg in her multitude of somersaults. She worried for a split second before she felt her body be picked up and placed on something. The mysterious dragon had heard Raimi’s small cry of pain and come back to give a helping claw.

Afterwards, Raimi wouldn’t leave the imperial’s side, who she found out was named Wendigo. Where he went, she hobbled/flew after him much to his annoyance. He had simply helped the mirror on a whim. Despite Wendigo’s resistance to talk with her, Raimi could tell that he was indeed listening to every word she said. So, instead of asking about him or talking about herself, she started talking about the different members of CrestHaven. She talked about her adopted brother Rabble who took failures as even greater successes, her best friend Quentin who is the healer, the twins, Overflow and Equalise, her brother’s assistants, and on and on until she brought up Harlequin. At the sound of him and his tricks, Wendigo finally started to respond. He asked many things, where to find the spiral, where he was known to frequent, things like that.

It wasn’t until Raimi spoke to Quentin on the matter that Raimi learned why. Harlequin had been the reason Wendigo’s wing was injured and now Wendigo was bent on tracking down the trickster and making him pay. When she confronted the imperial about this, he explained that he intended to leave once his wing made a full recovery and hunt down Harlequin. Why Raimi didn’t want this happen, she wasn’t sure. She just knew she hated the idea of Wendigo leaving like that and reasoned that if she could find Harlequin beforehand, he’d have no reason to leave.

While Raimi was gone, Wendigo had an uneasy feeling. It wasn’t something he was familiar with and didn’t understand why he felt this way. Earlier, Quentin had come to him, asking if he had seen Raimi anywhere. When Wendigo had answered no, the worry on Quentin’s face became fairly obvious. Depending on how much mail she had, Raimi could be gone for the entire day. And yet, Wendigo still felt like something was wrong. As he sat and pondered what could possibly be keeping Raimi away from him, the very dragon Wendigo wanted appeared face to face before him.

Wendigo snapped at the spiral, but Harlequin danced away and cackled his trickster laugh and started asking Wendigo questions such as if he liked the clan, why he did, and if he wanted to play a guessing game with him. Each question came with another failed attack by Wendigo. But when Harlequin’s first question sounded like something Raimi would ask, Wendigo stopped. He reluctantly played along and soon realized that the irritating dragon knew how to find Raimi. After a few more questions, he knew what he needed to do. Unfurling his nearly healed wing, Wendigo took flight to where the clan’s Seer, Belnan waited. After a moment, Belnan informed Wendigo that Raimi was currently being chased by a small pack of wildclaws to the north.
Wendigo made it just in time as the pack cornered the terrified mirror. He dived on top of the wildclaws and managed to scare them off by his sheer impressive size. After Wendigo flew Raimi home, he promised her that he wouldn’t leave her side if she was going to get herself in that much trouble alone.
