Estella was born of a wealthy underwater clan, parented by two well-respected nobles of the clan. She was intended to be conceived as a peace offering to be sent to a neighboring clan, but the coatl was defiant and ran away from her birth clan as a teen. She traveled through the ocean that separates the Starfall Isles and the Sunbeam Ruins, and discovered a series of small islands to make her new home on. However, the islands were occupied by a lonely young sea witch, who happily took in Ella as a companion as long as she would stay with her... forever. Estella spend several years by the side of the sea witch, naive and unaware of her true power. During a lone fishing incident that involved Ella receiving a rather harsh blow to the head, she unconsciously washed up on the shores of a clan territory in the Starfall Isles. The small and new clan were ecstatic to have found her, claiming her coming as a good omen from the Arcanist. The clan nursed her back to health and urged her to stay with them, and eventually Estella agreed. Estella was easily the femme fatale of the small but growing clan, and soon male dragons had begun to join the clan simply for a chance to court her. The coatl was flattered but a bit shy towards the attention she was receiving, and expressed these feelings to one of her acquaintances who she had grown up with. Slate listened to her thoughts, and the two became close after Estella began to feel like he was the only one who would listen to her without giving her criticism. In time, Slate convinced Ella that the only way to get rid of the boys chasing after her would be for her to find a mate, and volunteered himself for the position, acting as if he was doing Ella a favor. Estella meekly agreed to his proposal, an announced her mateship to the clan, which did make the other male dragons stop their efforts to pursue her. Estella tried to maintain their relationship as platonic, but Slate only became more possessive over her, eventually demanding that she mother his children. The young coatl became afraid and struggled to explain her true feelings toward Slate and expressed that she wasn't ready to have hatchlings. Estella decided that she had to leave Slate, which made his demands twist into intimidating threats. Fearful of her ex-boyfriend, the young and confused dragon only found herself safe by the side of Cosmo, an older dragon who had attempted to court her before. Cosmo actually expressed a deep concern for her and vowed to protect her from harm's way until her quarrel with Slate passed. Her ex-boyfriend was overwhelmed with intense jealousy and hatred towards Cosmo and Estella and his threats towards Ella only became worse. Now that she had someone to protect her, Ella was less afraid than she was angry at Slate, and in a fit of vengeance (and bought of attraction) the young coatl decided to court Cosmo, and the two had a clutch of hatchlings together. This seemed to make Slate finally back off, realizing he no longer had any control of Ella, and ceased his harassment. The incident had made Slate a disgraceful dragon in the eyes of the others, and Ella used the incident as a springboard to help propel her into the higher ranks of the clan. After time the sea witch had assumed her dead, and was heartbroken by the loss of her friend after she had been abandoned. As time passed, the small Arcane clan decided to relocate their numbers in the Sunbeam Ruins after the clan leader, Aja, had received an prophecy from the Lightweaver herself. Estella had acquired her own position of leadership (even being the clan leader for a short time when Aja had taken a short hiatus to hone her mage skills) and volunteered to lead the clan to the Sunbeam Ruins over the ocean she knew so well. Normally, dragons didn't venture into the vast and dangerous ocean, so the sea witch was shocked when she saw dozens of dragons flying above her territory, even landing to take advantage of her resources for their journey. The sea witch was welcoming to the outsiders at first, having been terribly lonely for such a long time. Although, when she saw that Estella had made herself a new home in the clan of dragons, the sea witch felt betrayed and was livid at the pink coatl and her clan. So, the witch cast a curse of mental plague upon Ella, cursing her and her lineage for as long as she should live. Ella thought nothing of it, experiencing no negative affects of the curse after receiving it. Little did she know, the curse would soon dominate her future after the clan made their new home in the Sunbeam Ruins. For awhile it seemed that Ella had finally found happiness, and she found she had an affinity for battle as well. Soon, Estella became close to the clan's strongest warrior and war adviser, Frostbite, and the two's friendship soon evolved into mateship. It wasn't long after that Ella's life began to split at the seams. |
