The Librarian
Jesse is an old dragon with battle scars and glowing runes across his body. He is solemn and reserved, preferring to keep the clan's library clean and tidy over socializing and talking with other dragons. One can often find him with his snout in a book for his research or transcribing old tomes. Very few in the clan know how he got the scars and markings, and those that do refuse to divulge any information about it. There are speculations by some members that he was a soldier during a clan war. Others think he was exiled from the Scarred Wastelands for reasons unknown. Yet another theory that is whispered far from the ears of the library was that he is a mage who had fallen out of favor from one of the Eleven. Those convinced of this theory feel vindicated by the few times some clan members caught a glimpse of Jesse using magic they had never seen before; a dim pulsing gold that surrounds whatever he is concentrating on while is muttering incantations in a long-dead and indescribable language. Those who are bold may try to find out the truth by finding Jesse's book.
One of the unique things about Clan Rose's Library is that each dragon has a book of their life. It appears when they join the clan and disappears when they leave for good. A dragon can only read the past and up to the present, the book does not divulge the future until it happens. Those who are clever enough to find it are sorely disappointed to find that section of Jesse's book is blank. No amount of spells, hexes, or special seeing glass, could reveal the book's secrets. The closest anyone got was when a potion sitting on the shelf above was spilled on the last blank page and some text was revealed, but before the young dragons could take a peek Jesse appeared before them and solemnly took the book, shooing them from the library as he used his strange magic to make the words disappear again.
Jesse was a soldier that fought the Emperors when they were terrorizing the world. The runes on his hide were a last-ditch effort by his superiors to bring an end to the nightmare and Jesse was the final dragon they put the runes on. Putting the markings on an Imperial was the last thing anyone wanted to do having seen the monstrosities a dead Imperial becomes. The potential to give more power to an Emperor, or worse yet, somehow the unknown magic triggering something more nightmarish than an Emperor had stopped the leaders from choosing an Imperial to bear the emblems. By the time the mage's approached Jesse about being a candidate though the resistance had run out of options. All dragons who have had the unknown script imprinted on them perished within hours of receiving it. The only ones who survived long enough to take down or slow an emperor were Pearlcatchers and Guardians, and even then, the dragon with the markings often went into a rage and could not be stopped until they perished from exhaustion or blood loss.
Jesse was a young plague dragon at the time of the war. The Emperors has suddenly grown in numbers ravaging Sorneith, clans of all flights banded together and sent their strongest warriors to the front lines. Jesse had just finished his training as a warrior when his clan sent out their most resilient fighters. Eager to join the fray Jesse convinced his clan leader to allow him to accompany the adults. At this point in the war, it was unknown what caused the Emperors to appear, and so a multitude of Imperials joined the front lines as many were masters of combat.
For eight years the clans of Sorneith fought back the Emperors with few victories. Although they slowed down and even ended some of the beasts, the loss of life from taking down a single creature was too great. The generals were becoming desperate, as were their soldiers who grew more demoralized as the years wore on. There were only so many of your comrades and friends a dragon could see perish at the claws of these nightmares before losing hope of a future. Hoping to find some answers, the army sent for scholars across the world to dig up every story and myth on the Emperors and dig into their archives, libraries, and prophecies for an answer. Deep within an unused archive in Arcane, a dragon found a scroll and book with details about the Emperors. Through the book, they were able to validate the story of Emperors being born of dead Imperials laying too close to each other. Also accompanied with the book was a magic scroll that pulsed with golden light. The book stated it was an ancient magical armor predating dragonkind, and so far was the only weapon to successfully defeat an Emperor
