Dhiona

SAF Dhiona (Scottish Gaelic – ‘weapons’) - Progenitor of the 'Gaelic' line, progeny: Banshee, Smalaidh and 12 further descendants.

Clan Role - Second in command, in charge of maintaining clan welfare, with a focus on monitoring clan mentality and preventing or resolving disputes.

Charge - As a guardian dragon, Dhiona underwent the search when she became of age and found a 'charge' to dedicate her life to. Her charge is the SaF clan, upon encountering Morgul and hearing his vision for the tribe of dragons he hoped to form and lead she was struck by his intensity and dedication, and wholeheartedly committed herself to building such a community and ensuring it prospers.

Mate - Achilles. Dhiona originally bred with several different males at Morgul's direction, including Morgul himself and the clan's royal advisor Pietro. However after years of close friendship, she and Achilles were permitted to become life mates by Morgul, a decision that brought much joy to the entire clan.

Family - Two of Dhiona's children remain with the clan currently. Banshee was one of her first hatchlings, and the two are close as the father of that clutch, Pietro, had little time to spend with his daughter due to his duties as royal advisor during the turbulent period of the clan's founding. Both dragons have caring, nurturing sides to their personality and Dhiona has encouraged Banshee's progression as the clan's top healer. Smalaidh is a relatively recent addition to Dhiona's close family. After many clutches together, Dhiona and Achilles were finally able to keep one of their children in the clan which has made them extremely happy. Given the physical battle prowess of their hatchlings, typically all are trained for and ultimately sent to the Flamecaller's army. However from an early age Smalaidh showed real talent at artistry and creative pursuits, and thus she was allowed to become a Lore Seeker of Constructs, specialising in crafting exquisite jewellery.

Of Dhiona's various great grandchildren, Losgadh and Lasadair are both talented miners and Losgadh is in charge of the clan’s mining activities. Neoptolemus, head of all the clan’s gathering activities, is descended from one of her daughters pairing with one of Achilles’ sons many generations ago. Neoptolemus and Lasadiar were permitted to become life mates in recent times despite some initial concerns over sharing family connections. However, once the tangled family tree of the two dragons was unwound, it showed that both were from Dhiona pairing with completely different males back when the clan first started, and that so many generations have passed that no harm would come of the pairing. The two dragons were delighted and have a daughter, Phaithirmor, one of the first primal fire hatchlings born to the clan, who has become Banshee's assistant in healing magics. Then there is Fingolfin, the clan’s treasurer and a member of the royal line, as one of her sons was once the chosen mate of a daughter of Morgul and Leoni. Dhiona is very fond of all her children and descendants, treating all of them as if they were her own hatchlings. All those who have stayed with the clan have inherited her methodical, hardworking nature which is fortunate, as Dhiona would find it difficult to stand to see any of her descendants be idle.

Bio - Dhiona is the female progenitor of the SaF clan, its Matriarch and is the caring, compassionate, warm heart at the centre of everything. She is slow to anger but once crossed will never forget an indiscretion, no matter how big or small. She is the one who hears about and resolves disputes (common in a clan full of hot-headed fire-born dragons) or detects underlying, often unspoken tensions in the large community. She is considered firm but fair and is, if not loved, then respected by everyone in the clan.

While she is friendly and caring she is also one of the clan's oldest dragons and has so much authority that many keep her at an awed distance. She therefore does not have many close friends outside of the other high ranking dragons in the clan. Aside from Achilles, her life mate, she counts Penny, Leoni, Sardonyx and Pietro as good friends and is one of the few dragons that truly gets on with the vagabond Marvel.

Dhiona has an assistant, Dior, who she trusts completely and who she relies on to perform the unsavoury task of collecting gossip, watching all the goings on in the clanholm and generally snooping on the clan's members. Dhiona is too trusting and considerate (and too large!) to do this herself, and while she dislikes the need for such activities she knows only too well the value of having the truth when settling a dispute or heading off a confrontation before things come to blows. So far this system is working, as Dior has proved time after time that she can be trusted not to abuse her position.
