Biography
 Brygid the Matriarch Founder | Leader | Protector | Warrior 
Brygid is the Matriarch of Clan Cuivienen. Our clan was founded when she realized during her Search that her ward was supposed to be an entire clan (for the full story, see clan story in clan profile). Brygid is a strong, seasoned warrior and a loving mother. To every member of her clan she is both fierce protector and wise, motherly leader. The clan is her heart and she will do anything to protect every single dragon she has taken under her wing.
Brygid is usually patient and slow to anger, but can be fearsome in her wrath. Threatening her clan or any of its members is the most dangerous and foolish thing anyone could ever do - and usually the last thing the aggressor ever does. The Matriarch has a strong connection to the fertile soil under her feet and the mighty, old trees of the Viridian Labyrinth around her. |
Brygid likes simple things. Her apparel and skins often tend to be loot from her coliseum fights. When patrolling around the lair at night, Brygid likes to carry a small lantern on her tail to make her presence known and warn off intruders rather than to light her path. Her familiar will always accompany her on these excursions, her glowing eyes in the dark just as much of a warning as Brygid's mighty, shadowy, lantern-lit form.

  Brygid & Gwalchmai Tiny Art by JGinn Mates Brygid's first mate was fierce and loyal Rynzin (random progen). They had two nests together and three of their children, some grandchildren, and a greatgranddaughter are still part of the clan. They were always more friends than mates, though, and while Rynzin still adores her to this day, Brygid eventually found another mate in gentle Myrddin, with whom she had several nests. They finally parted on amiable terms and remained friends. Brygid then chose her third and current mate, noble and valiant Gwalchmai, who, like her, would do anything for their clan and who would try to lay the stars at her feet if she asked him to. |
From Nature to Light 
There was a time, after Clan Safe Haven had prospered under Brygid’s wise leadership and become one of the biggest clans in the Viridian Labyrinth, when some of the dragons in the clan began to be plagued by wanderlust. Soon there was talk about some of them planning to move moving to Light, which worried Brygid since she could see no way to keep protecting the dragons she considered to be her charge if any of them were to split from the clan and move out of her reach. When the wanderlust did not fade, but rather began to spread through the clan like something contagious, Brygid finally called the entire clan together for a council meeting. In the end, and after much discussion, it was decided unanimously that, rather than splitting up, the entire clan would move to Light together.
Brygid wasn’t happy about that decision, being firmly rooted in Nature where she had been born and had founded her clan, but the relief of her clan choosing to stick together still outweighed her reluctance to leave her beloved woods behind.
So Brygid and her clan left the Viridian Labyrinth, and the magically formed tree-caves where they used to live high up in the mighty branches of the Behemoth, and found a new home in the Sunbeam Ruins under the benevolent rule of the Lightweaver.

 After having reluctantly settled into her new life, Brygid soon found herself happier than she ever expected to be in her new home. The Clan Matriarch now lives in a cave high up in the cliff face close to the Beacon of the Radiant Eye, where she has a breathtaking view of the ocean and the beach below and can watch the sun rise and set over the ocean every day. She often flies down to the beach to go for a swim, drying herself off by rolling in the sand afterwards, her scales being cleaner and having a more beautiful sheen than ever before. At night, Brygid loves being lulled to sleep by the steady song of the ocean waves hitting the shore. Being a Guardian, she never realized how much she missed being close to the ocean until she ended up living right next to it. |
Brygid still goes for walks with Lerchensang, though these walks now take them through blooming meadows, among towering Redwood trees, or along the beach. Occasionally, Brygid even manages to convince Lerchensang to go swimming with her, though that doesn’t happen very often. Being a fire Dragon, Lerchensang doesn’t have much love for the wet element and she especially dislikes having salt and sand cling to her fur and itch on her skin (which is why she will only go for a swim when she has lots of time for grooming her fur afterwards).

Brygid daily visits all the dragons of her clan, who now live close by in other caves, in the Beacon of the Radiant Eye, or in the Redwood forests. While she always tries to keep an eye on her charges, she also trusts her powerful warriors and co-leaders to share the burden with her and keep their clan safe.
Since moving to Light, Brygid has taken to wearing a butterfly mask, which was given to her as a going-away present by some of the beasts living in the Shrieking Wilds, who had come to greatly respect her. She wore their gift proudly, finding it very useful to shield her eyes, which were used to the shadowy twilight of the forest, from the glaring sunlight. Once her eyes had adapted to the bright light and she didn’t really need the mask anymore, she found that she had come to like it so much that she didn’t want to take it off. Brygid has been wearing the mask as part of her clothing ever since, and because of it some have taken to calling her “The Butterfly Warrior”. |
