RHODONITE
Affiliation: Beacon Clan |
Artisan Jewelcrafter, keeper of the Beacons. She sells sea shells. Descendant of Naomi ( Naomi > Willow > Oblivion > Aspen > Voltaire > Ametrine > Rhodonite) An imaginative and bubbly little dragon, Rhodonite was always something of a magpie when it came to shiny objects. It seemed that she had inherited her mother's love of collecting but, perhaps fortunately, not her father's legacy of strange powers. With as far removed as she was from her Glitch Queen ancestor, perhaps the bloodline had become diluted enough to produce a dragon like any other. The tiny fae lacked the size to be a proficient hunter, and despite her curious nature had little interest in working among her father's dusty scrolls- preferring to explore and create, rather than study. |
Her first role in the clan was as an artisan; using the colourful crystals and shells she gathered from around the island to create jewellery and trinkets which were traded amongst the clan, and to the island's occasional visitors.
As she honed her craft Rhodonite began to notice something strange. If she worked with a piece for long enough it would begin to take on an otherworldly glow, develop strange new colours, or flicker as if it had been set alight. And sometimes, when trying to fit two stubbborn pieces together, they would somehow impossibly fuse- as if their edges had phased through each other and locked into place.
With no precedent to go on, she coined the terms 'Palette Swapping,' 'Texture Flickering' and 'Clipping' for these strange effects. Ametrine and his library could give her few answers, but there were enough clues for her to fit the pieces together: she had inherited the powers of her bloodline, but instead of affecting her they were extering a subtle influence on her surroundings. The more she handled an object, the more it would glitch.
In time she would learn to control this abiity. The beacons warning travellers off the rocks need far less maintainence, now, with their colour-changing crystals and supports melded to the cliffs themselves as if they had grown there. Rhodonite will still happily make you some jewellery in exchange for a bit of treasure or a bug or two, though- how about something in a nice checkerboard pattern...?
