Beacon Clan Co-Founder
Mate of Wrack. Antiquarian. Geologist Rock hoarder.

Not the obvious choice for a clan founder, Lias fell into her role by chance. Though a kind dragon, she was more likely to be found scouring the coastline for relics and fossils than interacting with the rest of her clan.

Her interest in adding more fragments (one dragon's junk is another's priceless artifact) to her collection was so great that some members of her clan would joke that she had ended up in the Wind flight by mistake, and was really an Ice dragon. Perhaps, then, it was not mere chance where she eventually ended up.

Always more focused on the shingle beneath her than the sky above, one day while beachcombing she failed to note the changing weather and just how close to The Twisting Crescendo she was getting.

The violent storm that swept her up should have been certain death for a small Fae, but by luck or divine intervention the winds carried the little dragon to a small, inhospitable island somewhere between the Windswept Plateau and the Southern Icefield. Battered, weak and hungry, but miraculously alive, she found herself marooned- lacking the stamina to fly back to the mainland or any immediate means to call for help.

Thankfully, although the island was rocky and barren, it did have a source of fresh water. And there were insects enough in the seaweed washed up on the beaches to satisfy a single fae. Perhaps most importantly- to Lias at least- the island was geologically fascinating.

She was content to wait. And perhaps she wouldn't have to wait long- as she explored, she discovered that the island showed signs of previous occupation. Here fishbones around the remains of driftwood campfire, there a cave with a dried seaweed nest. The island, Lias assumed, was probably a stopover point for couriers and travellers. And an end destination for some, judging by the chilling scatter of bones in the surf.

She didn't discover the island's other resident until she literally tripped over him.

A mound of mottled green on the shore turned out not to be another pile of seaweed, but instead a dozing mirror male. Fortunately for Lias, the castaway turned out to be more grouchy than ferocious, and after some communication difficulties an understanding was reached. She used her modest healing magics to tend his wounded shoulder; he used his greater size and strength to help build a more substantial shelter amidst the island's sea caves. He had no intention of returning permanently to the mainland, but agreed to ferry the smaller dragon there if he regained enough use of his wing to do so.

But it soon became clear that the situation was more complicated than simply escaping. She was becoming oddly fond of the hermit, Wrack. And after one stormy night Lias was horrified to discover a dead dragon washed up on the shore. Elsewhere, the remnants of an eggshell. She already knew that the island was a deathtrap; it would continue to be if nothing was done.

The mirror, irritable though he was, agreed. And so, over time, the nameless little island was transformed into a haven- with beacons to warn travellers away from the jagged cliffs and shelter for those who had no choice but to land there. Over time they trickled in; the castaways, the outcasts, the lost travellers, the abandoned eggs washed up on the tide. Some chose to stay, and some continued on their journeys- word spreading until the little outpost became a known place for seafaring dragons to pause and rest.

Lias still isn't sure when and how, but eventually the little gaggle of misfits and flotsam developed into a clan of its own....
