Calypso was born lucky, according to her parents. Only days after she hatched, the world saw fit to grant her a Charge. There was no need for a Search when the cove that held her heart was so close. She learned early to swim in the shallows, and the pull of her Charge only carried her farther as time went on. Soon enough, she ruled over the whole cove, land and sea alike. Most of all, she ruled over the sharks that took refuge there.
The local clans were not always kind to sharks, hunting them for special occasions or even daily meals. Maren schools that frequented the area were equally threatening. But Calypso could be threatening, too, and she when she realized her Charge entailed the sharks living in her cove rather than the cove itself, she grew ever fiercer. Word spread quickly that her wrath was not to be trifled with, and somehow, the sharks understood that they had a place under her watchful gaze. The cove brimmed with life, and Calypso was queen of her own sheltered empire.
It was a lonely empire indeed, though, and the sharks could not always be the company she desired. More draconic company was constantly on her mind as the seas shifted to winter and the sharks migrated away with the season. Leaving the cove was not an option, not when it depended on her so, but inviting others in? After long consideration, she realized that might be just the thing, and set to work.
Thus, a small inn sprang up on the shore, surrounded by white sands and the gentle lap of the waves against the shore. Gradually, dragons began to visit, taking up the accommodations Calypso provided while offering her company and steady pay in order to maintain her new business. The inn never grew too large that she needed help to keep it running, but it was never empty, either. Any time of the year, there would be dragons resting on the shores, basking in the sun or lounging in the shallows, and with them they brought a familiar sort of life that soothed Calypso's nerves.
Today, Calypso still manages the Cove Inn, but business has shifted slightly. Its location in the tamer region of the Sea of a Thousand Currents makes it a valuable port to sail from, and Nyx Coven has purchased the exclusive rights to trade to and from the Inn. The only condition they must follow is that the mermaid that hovers at the edge of their coven must not come near the cove. Calypso has heard that she is a shark hunter by birth, and even if she must run a business, ultimately, her dear sharks will come first.
