A long time ago, Amelia belonged to a clan that worshiped a god of randomness and luck, Arenji. Eventually, she became disenchanted and wanted out. Doing her best to appear loyal, she asked the clan leaders to let her become a spy. Despite that role being typically given to a hatchling, her request was granted and she was sent out into the world.

She stayed perhaps half a year in her assigned clan, just long enough to acquire some blacksmithing skills and ensure that clan Melohn would not be watching too closely. Then, she packed her tools and left.

After a time, she came upon Square Toe, a small and relatively isolated clan. No one she asked would admit to knowing who or what this Arenji thing was, which after the stress of travel was enough for her. Besides, they didn't have a blacksmith.

Although Amelia doesn't talk to anyone about her past, she is very vocal about not believing in luck. She disapproves greatly of gambling and games of chance, preferring instead the undeniability of iron and the surety of her forge. Most of the time when she's not at her forge, she's with Ken, trying to learn from him what it is that drives the universe. It has to be something more than luck.
