If you asked Viri, it all started with an Aardvark. Soon after Virimentha was born she somehow managed to crawl past Astaroth, wandered too far from the nest, and quickly became lost. The two day old hatchling squeaked pitifully in the dark of the Hewn forest, with not even enough light coming through the thick fir trees to reflect off of her gemstones. Though Astaroth had asked for the twin Scouts to help her find small Viri, her voice was too strained for them to hear, and her legs too weak to walk toward the dragons calling her name. Out of the forest behind her, other noises grew louder. Bushes swayed and a snuffling Peacevine Aardvark pushed his way toward her. Terrified, Viri used her tired body to scoot as far away from the creature and kept her eyes on it's long snout and long claws. The movement caught the Aardvark's eye and it became curious about this tiny creature alone in the forest. Viri gave out a weak cry and stopped abruptly as something stood over her. A calm voice told her not to fear, the Aardvark would not eat her. Turning her head around, Viri found that it was a young Manticore that towered above her. Though she should have been equally scared by a stranger covering her in their shade, she immediately trusted this new creature's soft dark eyes and warm smile. The Ghost Manticore, Shauna, kept talking to her in her soft, low voice and Viri quickly became calm. Shauna told her stories of the fiery forest she came from and the animals that lived there. She went on about her journey to the current forest and taking in the new creatures here, including the Aardvark that was trailing behind them as they walked to find Viri's family. Shaun was met with immediate distrust in Castor, followed by aggressive caution from his brother and Astaroth. Their alliance with Beastclan was observed through their Queen, they weren’t as quick to judge with kindness due to Castor’s past. Regardless, Shauna regarded them with calmness that Viri admired to this day and let them know she was only trying to find the family of the Fae she accompanied. When Pollux came to collect her, Viri’s eyes zoned on Shauna until she was out of their sight. She never forgot the Ghost Manticore, and held a silent promise that she'd look to find her every single day. Viri held her personal promise, and found Shauna as soon as it was permissible to leave the Clan by herself. She was taught lessons about the creatures of the forest and had a knack for nurturing them when they needed help. Finally a day came where she could choose a familiar or partner and asked Shauna to join her for the rest of her life. Without any doubt or reservation in her voice, Shauna followed Viri out of the forest for the first time. |
