You find yourself walking along the cliffside, enjoying the feeling of the breeze on your scales. It’s silent, except for the crash of waves, the cries of seabirds, and... a song drifting on the wind?
You follow the sound, wondering who this mysterious singer could be, and find yourself on the pebbly beach below. Continuing on, you reach a portion that is more rock than pebble. On one said rock sits a maren, humming as she brushes out her stark-white hair. Just as you start to call out, her eyes flick towards you, and, in an instant, a sleek skydancer stands in the maren’s place. She stares at you coolly before turning on her heel and vanishing into one of the many caves along the coast.
You stand confused on the rocky shore before you hear another song echo out from the cave. As it reaches your ears,

you feel like you should leave.

Born to an egg set seabound by its parents, Tidepool never met her birth parents. However, she found a family in the school of coastal maren that rescued the egg. She was treated like any other maren child, and raised with the youngest of the school. Tidepool’s favorite was Conch. The two were like sisters, spending any time out of class scouring the sea floor for rocks, shells, or other treasures. On one of these outings, they discovered Tidepool’s biggest treasure.
On that day, they had found a gold ring that had fallen into the lair of a massive eel. Trapped, Tidepool panicked, hoping for something stronger to come and rescue them. Suddenly, she was a shark, snapping and biting at the eel. Startled, the eel vanished. Tidepool was terrified, but Conch was ecstatic. How cool was it, to have a sibling that could shapeshift!
From then, Tidepool’s time was spent learning how to control her gift. She learned that new forms were hard to keep, but repeat forms were like her own skin. She kept a maren as her second form, her dark skin hiding perfectly in night waters, the flashing scales attracting fish to her talons. She experimented with other forms, even daring to venture onto land.
As she aged, she got cocky.
One day, as she climbed onto the shores near her home, she forgot to watch her surroundings and shifted. Unbeknownst to her, dragons hiding in the grasses were waiting, expecting a beautiful maren. Seeing that the maren was something more powerful, they tossed nets at the beach. Caught in their webbing, frozen with confusion, Tidepool couldn’t escape.
She spent her early adulthood travelling in a sideshow of sorts, passing between high class clans. The owners enjoyed showing off their collections of visual and magical oddities, and Tidepool was a crowd favorite, able to become whatever they wanted to see.
At first, though she hated the life, she enjoyed showing off her abilities. Then, even that ceased to be fun.
Eventually, she had to get out.
One night, while they were riding through the deserts, she found her time to strike. She waited for the guards to settle at their campfires. Then, while they were falling asleep, she smashed the lantern in her wagon and waited for the flames to spread.
The guards awoke to her screams and a pile of boards and ashes in the sand.
Tidepool watched them scramble to rescue her from her fiery grave as a bird in the skies above.
She spent months roaming the deserts with no sense of direction. With no way to describe where her home was, asking for help was difficult, if not impossible, but she made do. It felt like eons, but eventually, she could smell the sea on the winds.
When she finally reached the still waters of her home and the comfort of her family’s arms, she swore to abandon the land and her shapeshifting, venturing only on the shores and no further.

As her adoptive older sister, Conch has stuck by Tidepool through thick and thin (though not without a thorough dose of teasing). The pair grew up in the winding coral reefs formed by the strange magics of the Starfall Isles. When Tidepool discovered her shapeshifting abilities, Conch was so excited. Imagine all the fun pranks they could play on the other kids their age! Unfortunately, her magic didn’t work like that. (Later, they would look back on their childish plans and laugh).
When Tidepool disappeared, Conch was devastated. She turned her grief into energy, utilizing her knowledge of the reefs to become a soldier. Her spears have taken down many a shark, her fins have raced marlins, and her snarl scares off suitors looking to “tame” the angry girl. She can think about dating once her sister is back, idiot!
When she wasn’t working, Conch scoured the seas for Tidepool. When Tidepool escaped, Conch was the first to find her and didn’t let her go for weeks. They aren’t attached at the hip anymore, and Conch is a little hurt at all the time Tidepool’s been spending on the shore, but whenever Tidepool returns to the waters, Conch teases her fins off about Tidepool’s (not so) little crush, as only good sisters can.

Tidepool drew me in and captivated me. Even without apparel Tidepool is gorgeous and calls to me like a siren. The color and texture combination of the Caribbean peregrine and abyss falcon make it look like light is shining on her from underwater. Perfect use of okapi too. Her skin and apparel are in line with her character. I love the nice touch of purple from twilight rose thorn arm tangle and undine's flat fins. It works well with the touch of red-violet from the skin. She is well-deserving of her best-dressed awards. I also enjoyed reading about her. Her character is extremely likable, I would like to hang out with her. Definitely a dangerous gal, no doubt because of her backstory, but still has a great personality and would be a good friend. If I could swim that is.

And I had to save my favorite for last. Tidepool is absolutely stunning from start to finish. The voidfollow set paired with the kelpie mane really sells her spooky deep sea fish aesthetic. Her backstory is well written and really helps to convey Tidepool’s personality. Like the person at the bottom said, she really does seem like she’d be a cool friend to have. Her sister is also really cool, that’s a wonderful use of a familiar!

I’m ahuge big sucker for water draons. Water has SO much lroe otential and alsp maybe me living on an island akes it call to ym heart a lil more idk. ANYWAY. Tidepool. Perfect colours mtching skin, perfect apparel pulling it further together. SO much art too! Wonderful. Bio works well on my computer m. too drunk to red it all tho. Beautful eel design.

I adore dragons that have close/familial bonds with beastfolk so seeing Conch really added to my adoration of this character. You put so much love into it all, it’s really standout.
