Kaissetha remembers little of his childhood, only swirling bubbles and the distant moans of tragic prophecy. Dark, terrible things swam in the deep, but he was not afraid. One day, he swam too far. Something deeper than the dark caught him. Then all was shade and silence; nothing he tried broke the bonds holding him. Finally, in desperation, he shed his old form entirely, praying to the weeping prophet to change his fate. To this day, he does not know who answered, only that something did. His bones and flesh were reshaped into something new, something strange, and he awoke on the shore of the Starlit Strand with scars black as the night on his face and broken shackles beside him.
Without knowing what he did, he spat out the memory and held it in his claw, a tiny gem that shone like a shard of the moon. But all too soon, it tried to trickle away, lacking something to bind it. Kaissetha pressed it around the shackles that had bound him and it hardened there, a memory of his trials, and of his endurance. The pearl has grown since then, and the shackle can no longer be seen, but the symbol remains, proof that he will survive.
His experience in the deep changed Kaissetha in more than form. His connection with water is weaker now, at least his connection with the element itself, and he can no longer see the future. Instead, he can glimpse the past, dredging up memory out of the dark corners of the world. Darkness has touched him deeply, and it's anyone's guess, when he uses magic, whether water or shadow will answer his call. His voice casts doubts into his listeners' minds, self-fulfilling prophecies of failure and despair. Few have the will to withstand the constant aura of fear that surrounds him now. Sometimes, if pressed, he can even conjure the memories themselves, phantoms as black as night and fluid as the sea. Kaissetha keeps this talent to himself for now, honing his gift for the day it will be needed. Needed for what, he cannot say.

Kaissetha defended the clan during the Twenty-Fourth Arcane Hunger Games, and even now he has not forgiven Aered for her decision to (as he saw it) surrender. He remains loyal to her, and to the clan, and he will not openly defy her orders, but bitterness and slighted pride rankle like thorns in his heart, drawing up the darkness that lingers from his time beneath the sea. The right whispers in his ear might be just enough to tip the scales.

When Kriyei returned, tired and tattered, after Kaissetha lent her to Sussuri, Kaissetha withdrew all support from the spiral's plans. Allowing someone access to his loyal subordinates is one thing. When said subordinate comes back damaged, that is another entirely. As much as he tends to keep his emotions to himself, Kaissetha genuinely cares for his comrades, and his actions ended up getting Kriyei hurt. Perhaps... perhaps Aered was right. He has clung to anger and pride for too long.

He proudly took part in the 39th Game and returned home as Champion. His sweet tooth might be something of an open secret now but he has no regrets.
