Biography

IRELIA | LIFE
Pronounced I - reli - a

There's a common misconception that Irelia is a nice entity.

Sure, Irelia is a little more forgiving than the other entities. After all, Irelia literally breathes life wherever it goes, so why wouldn't it be nice?

When Irelia blinked its eyes open, it immediately felt the draw of the throne. Determined to find the source, Irelia spent most of its formation struggling to differentiate between Rae's tendrils of chaos and the gaping hole of an empty void. Irelia found Rae at the same moment it fully solidified into a conscious entity. Irelia's first exhale spread life into Rae's followers. They were alive.

Of course, this life did not necessarily grant them the ability to think on their own. No, that was not going to come about until Karyal introduced the idea of a mind. Similarly, just because Irelia breathed life into the followers of entities did not necessarily mean that they could die. No, they were simply immortal until Zeyliv came along.

Irelia fought for the throne. But Rae knew the throne's power, and had much more time to master its powers. Irelia quickly realized it was not a match for Rae, and retreated into the far reaches of Rae's chaos to lick its wounds and try again after a few eons. Irelia did not dare to re-enter the void -- Rae's chaos, despite her newfound hatred for the entity, was better than being surrounded by nothing.

In her self-imposed exile, Irelia grew tired of its ability to grant life. It was a boring job, and because none of the beings could die, Irelia could find no entertainment in the fights between beings. As it honed its ability, Irelia quickly discovered that it could make life extremely difficult for beings (by granting bad luck and whatnot). Irelia is a being of chaos. It is not a surprise that it came with a less positive (evil) side. Despite the trials Irelia could put its followers through, most followers realized that if you could put up with the entity, you would be granted great power over life in return.

Irelia never gave up fighting for the throne. However, while its power over life grew with the introduction of new entities, its power over bad luck faded. But the wicked side of Irelia never faded, and it constantly tried to find new ways to make life difficult for people. So, like many of the entities to follow, Irelia developed a dual personality. One half, the one more commonly depicted, is of a kind, benevolent entity who grants life to those who need it. The more sinister half consists of a being who only cares about the power that controlling life brings.

but why does Irelia wear steampunk gear, Ryu?

It was eons before Irelia began to get invested in the lives of these --- people? Dragons? Irelia did not particularly care. Life was life, after all. It had a grand time annoying the other entities by giving these beings life when Zeyliv decided their time had come.

Irelia quickly noticed these beings had a curiosity for the unknown. Curse Hadal and the spirit of exploration. But its curses were soon forgotten when Irelia noticed these beings were... trying to create life? Artificial life? Hmm. Interesting.

Perhaps that was something Irelia should explore too. Oh, curse you again, Hadal.
