RESILIENT ◊ PURE-HEARTED ◊ GENTLE he/his | gay ace | neutral good __________________________________________________ Agaricus is easy to miss. He flits through the wood, his wings beating like a hummingbird’s. He sips sugar water and honey. Prefers the damp earth of the Wood over its tall trees. Grows mushrooms in jars to use as lamps, leaves them for travelers to find and light their way. Hatched in the tunnels that connect the Wood to Dragonhome. Hums songs he’s never heard before. Prefers routine over spontaneity. Most faes prefer the company of other faes, but not Agaricus. “You must be from the Isles,” they would say, studying the color of his irises, their snouts too close to his own. “Most faes are. After all, your kind was forged by the Arcanist Himself.” They would ask him of the towering spines at the shore, the luminescent flora of the Starwood Strand. They would ask him why he left. In truth, Agaricus knows not of any of these places. He hatched amongst a cluster of fairy ears and cindershrooms in the tunnels that connect the Wood to Dragonhome, grew up with his claws in the dirt, never knowing the light of the sun. Nurtured by the earth, he grew, and as he grew, so did his enthusiasm for the fungi that surrounded him. He heard tales of the Wispwillow Grove, of the glowing mushrooms that light the Wood. Tales from travelers, and sometimes overheard from beasts. He followed the stories as if they were a map leading to treasure, to home — Eventually, they did. |
