Biography

wZyJyMh.png Mizar
==================================
I'm sick and I'm twisted;
I'm broken, and you can't fix it.
Bloodstone Rusted Chain Royal Cape

Rejected since day one; my name is --

Her name used to be Brightpine.

1HIhYOi.png
There's only one person left alive who's aware of this; the rest are dead or amnesiac or have completely forgotten that little clan up in the northern Lightlands. Certainly they would never associate young Brightpine with who she is now.

Her name is Mizar, now. She rarely thinks about her old name; she has no attachment to it, never did. The way her mother treated her exacerbated it; it was no one's surprise that she rejected Brightpine in the same breath that she rejected her mother. She was right to do it, objectively speaking. Her mother was not a good mother. And cutting out toxicity and forging your own path is an admirable thing to do.

It could have ended there. For a while it did end there - Valewind loves his sister with all his heart, no matter what their mother might think, and for a while that was enough. For a while her brother and her mate and her job was enough. Their mother faded; the siblings became rulers. Mizar learned to lead; she learned to harness what little charisma she possessed and inspire her soldiers with it. She learned to rein in her temper, or at least she tried.

Except Mizar has always been the jealous type. She wanted more than what Valewind allowed. She wanted to be more than his angry shadow. She wanted power.

They'll think I'm insane, but you'll all know my name -

You should be careful what you wish for.

The Empress Mizar is the supreme ruler of Clan Goldwood, at least as far as everyone outside of the command circle is aware of.

If you ask her high priestess Aine she'll call Mizar the heir to a glorious destiny, but where once she was fanatically zealous there is now a hint of disdain for her Empress. Mizar is not as pious as Aine would like. Aine has instigated one coup; there is nothing stopping her from instigating a second.

If you ask her enforcer Giada, she'll laugh and call Mizar a means to an end, and a brat in over her head besides. There's no loyalty there - there's only the loyalty bought by gold. The gold is running low.

If you ask her general Alcor, she'll call Mizar her commander and say she will follow her to the ends of Sornieth. She's being truthful - she'll never leave her mate's side, no matter what might happen. She's Mizar's rock in the turbulence that is her rule over Goldwood. (And yet - Alcor wonders. She'll never go against her commander, but sometimes she thinks - what if this was a mistake.)

Mizar's many children look up to her with the terrified awe normally reserved for deities and natural disasters. There is no love there. There is obsession and zealotry born from their nonexistent childhoods, there is blind loyalty. In the unlucky few there is a buried conscience - this is wrong. This is evil.

If you decide you ought to ask Mizar's family - well. Mizar's mother is dead. Mizar killed her herself. The skull still rests on the earth under the ancient oak where she'd died. It looks like it's grinning, but then all skulls do.

You'll never be able to talk to Mizar herself. There are too many layers of guards between an outsider and her. It's probably for the best. Her temper is legendary, and it's only gotten worse since her ascension to Empress. You'd be executed for questioning her. Such is life in Goldwood now.

(A small voice at the back of Mizar's head says: what have I done?)

Character Notes
River Below, Uncrowned, The Mad Queen
• Mizar is one of Goldwood's two children; as Goldwood faded away she and Valewind became the rulers of the clan. They were meant to be co-leaders - Valewind leading the civilians while Mizar led the military. Ultimately Valewind became the undisputed leader of all Goldwood, not because he wanted it but because he was by far the more approachable of the two of them, and there were far more civilians anyway.
• Mizar is impulsive, prone to jealousy, and possesses a fearsome temper. She's always had these traits to some degree, but her position of Empress has severely exacerbated them. Unfortunately to go along with these are near limitless reserves of willpower, and so despite her stress she just keeps on going.
• Of herself and Valewind she was blatantly their mother's unfavored child; she looks nothing like either her mother or brother and instead resembles a monster that can be glimpsed in the woods on occasion. Perhaps as a result of this, Goldwood's treatment of her daughter was ... frosty, at best, and often neglectful. This is, in the end, the cause of Mizar's many emotional struggles. (a cause, not an excuse; it does not excuse what she has done, but it provides the context behind it.)
• Her Charge was her own mother - who she murdered during her grab for power. The resultant loss has made Mizar even more unstable than she already was, especially since she was the one to deliver the blow.
Alcor is both Mizar's mate and second-in-command. She's pretty much the only dragon that Mizar gets along with, and even then the two of them disagree a lot. They make an excellent team, though, and Alcor is very good at arguing in such a way that it's a civil debate rather than an explosive fight. The two of them also actually breed regularly in the lore; many of their children are promptly sent to serve the Lightweaver, and those who remain become enforcers for their parents.
• Mizar is an excellent public speaker, a skill she picked up later in life. When she was young, she was softspoken when her temper wasn't flaring up, and even then she tended toward physical expressions of it rather than yelling. Nowadays she tends to get a bit too vitriolic and lose track of what she's saying, but she can still gather dragons to the cause like nobody's business.

OOC Notes
• Suffers from undiagnosed/untreated BPD/EUPD. Combine this with the neglect from her mother and tbh it's quite a feat that Mizar kept herself functioning as long as she did. The death of her Charge unfortunately shattered the remnants of her willpower in that department.

• Jet Force Gemini fandragon!
• the most ostentatious outfit
