Biography
A dragon of exceptional intelligence and even greater arrogance. As the clan's resident know-it-all, Ish is always ready and willing to prove someone wrong. Quick of mind and sharp of tongue, he makes for a formidable opponent when it comes to verbal spars; most dragons know not to argue with him, and those that don't soon learn. He will not suffer ignorance or stupidity, and as such he makes a point to only keep the company of those other dragons he feels are near his own level. At this time, that extremely small list comprises only Wiress, Lemniscate, and, to a limited degree, Lichtenberg. The other dragons do not mind, finding him rather insufferable even on his best days.
Despite being very intuitive, he is definitively not the dragon to approach with a problem; though he can most likely come up with a solution, he won't share it unless he can derive some benefit from doing so. Even then, if offered a reward he finds unsatisfactory, he will purposefully provide a solution guaranteed to make the problem worse rather than decline his services altogether, so his advice is not to be trusted in any case. Like most dragons of his breed he can sense the energy and emotions of his clanmates; unbeknownst to the others, his senses are unusually acute, giving him a unique level of access to the minds and hearts of those around him. He can feel their emotional turmoil almost as much as if it were his own, but this does not alter his own behavior in any way, and it certainly has not made him any more sympathetic over time. Since first hatching from his egg, Ish has learned to block out this extra-extrasensory information, filtering out all but those few bits and pieces that he can use and manipulate for his own gain.
As a general rule, Ish cares about himself more than anything else. In this way he is somewhat similar to Slick, though neither dragon would acknowledge this shared trait—they do not like one another at all, each being deeply distrustful of the other. Unlike Slick, Ish does have the capacity to care about others as well, even if he does not act like it. He enjoys theorizing with Lemniscate, whom he could almost consider a mentor if not for the fact that such a label implies that he knows less than the Spiral. He will also spend time in Lichtenberg's workshop, intrigued as he is by the other's machinery and ever-expanding collection of inventions, but the Ridgeback's focus only on the practical—how something works, rather than why—generally guarantees that these visits remain short-lived. By far and large his favorite haunt is the Transfiguration Den, where the clan's Chief (and only) Alchemist spends her days. Ish likes Wiress—a lot, much to his embarrassment—and Wiress seems to like him too, so long as he behaves and makes himself useful as her assistant. He wants very badly to impress her, and since she clearly finds his pompousness off-putting, he is at his most humble whenever he is in her presence.
