As a young dragon Herod abandoned his birth clan, carved himself out a chunk of territory, and founded Clan Bloodbane, setting himself up as its alpha Warlord. He is a cunning and ambitious leader. Every decision is weighed in terms of personal advantage; he has no moral compass guiding his decisions. He considers nothing too morally corrupt to do if it is advantageous to him or his little empire. Though he does not mind getting his hand dirty, Herod often leaves more unsavory tasks to his mate, Temper, or other trusted underlings. He is the mastermind behind his clan's trade, is a wonderful tactical leader, and is constantly scheming ways to expand his territory. He is harsh and sadistic to the point of cruelty, though he knows when to keep a cool head. All his killing, torturing, and enslaving is carefully calculated rather than an act of passion. Herod owns a matched set of personal slaves, twin brothers Sand and Smoke. They prepare his meals and tend to his battle wounds, provide companionship and amusement and a way to blow off steam at the end of a long day. He may be cruel to them at times, but he genuinely cares for them in his own warped way, and rarely pushes either of them past their limits. He arguably spends more time with his slaves than with his own mate, and obsessively hoards them for himself, rarely allowing them to leave his lair. He sees to their needs personally and whenever he travels he brings back lavish gifts. Many clan members have theorized (silently and to themselves, of course) that Herod chose his mate for tactical purposes, and his two slaves are where his passions truly lie. |
