Leaving its mother infertile after its birth, Shade is unloved by most.

Shackled to a pole in the midst of the lair lies Shade. A gangly limbed skydancer with patches of feathers missing, revealing the self inflicted scratches in the skin below. Its wings look underdeveloped, as if they have never taken flight. Anyone approaching will be met with aggressive hissing and attempts at bodily harm. No one knows exactly why such a creature would hatch from a seemingly normal egg, but there are rumours about it being something caused by Rose's past.

Within the Bottochelli clan, opinions about this deranged creature differs. Some pity it for its lack of sense, whilst other resent it at think it a monster. However, as it is The Bottochelli clan has made it clear that every dragon has a place within the clan, including Shade, although some dragons have pointed out that Shade is only a dragon on the outside. On the inside, it is no more than an animal. The arguments regarding Shade's place within the clan might have been further discussed had it not been for Blucher.

From the first time the guardian laid her eyes upon the newly hatched chick, Blucher knew that she had found her charge. Therefore, as Rose declared that she was not going to take care of the creature, Blucher quickly declared the responsibility as hers. This is how the first few weeks of Shade's life came to be spent within the little nest that Blucher had made it. Here, the guardian carefully fed her charge, whilst also trying to find some kind of sentinence in its mind.

As Shade grew larger, Blucher decided with a heavy heart that there was no hope for finding any draconic familiarity within her charge. She also had to move the young dragon, as it kept tearing the nest that she made it to pieces. It was a solemn looking Blucher who finally set up the thick pole in the clan centre. Shade had given her no choice but to tie it to the pole; both for it's own and any other dragon's security. Various attempts at giving the creature some comfort to no awail left Blucher leaving Shade chained to the pole with nothing but the ground to lie on. Not that the creature seemed to care.

Like any other living creature, Shade has good and bad days. On its bad days, it will scream and roar, trying to claw its own body to ribbons. Anyone approaching within the radius of it's chain will be attacked with the fury of a starved animal. These days, there is little Blucher can do but watch sadly from the sidelines, having to use force just to keep the creature from harming itself further.

Then there are the good days, the best days. These days, Shade will lay still by its post, watching the other dragons get on with their business with calm. During such days it even allows Blucher to get close to it without a fight, making her able to tend its wounds and feed it from hand. On some of these good days, Blucher will untie the part of the chain fastened to the pole, taking Shade for a walk around the territorium. It brings her joy to see Shade in such a state, almost curious eyes studying the dirt at its feet. The guardian's eyes will brim with happy tears whenever she remembers that one time Shade had given her a gentle lap on the nose with its soft tongue.

All in all, Shade is a tormented creature. Trapped within itself, it has no idea how to do anything but cause hurt. Anyone laying the eyes of this creature will be able to tell that it will not live long. Its very own existence tortures it
