W hen nights are short, and days wear on, those who sail under the stars know better than to shift into complacency. For as the moon swells, four ships sail the lands, each with their own curses to bear. And the Blood Pearl holds a beast that fills the sails, blessing those who dream with cool breezes and a longing for the icy sea that never lets go. This is the tale of the Barghest Scorpio. |

The intertwined beasts of the south, Sleipnir and Vargr, have always been at odds. Their differences have always been too great, despite their shared curse binding them together; every meeting has been a careful dance of resentment and curiosity. Their children together were a great experiment between the two, and their children have always suffered from it. In the humid July evening, guided by buzzing mosquitos and the murmuring of flourishing plants, this clutch broke free from their shells. Their father, Vargr, observed the hatching beasts with little interest and left them to their own devices, while their other sire was nowhere in sight. The twins played together underneath the full moon, their bodies malleable and ever-shifting, and eventually wandered far from their nest in search of new things to play with.
