Biography

Palinourous
(Pal-in-ore-us) (AKA Master)
0GeVlna.png Nature Runestone rXAL2aJ.png

Most fitting song: Irish Breakfast Band - Sean's Treasure

Former home: A forgotten kingdom in the Gladeveins (Nature Flight)

Position: Myth: Palinourous is hardly a member of the Kith, but rather a piece of folklore that they found to be true. This wizened Pearlcatcher has been a sought for wisdom by flighty Wind youth for longer than he cares to detail, and has trained many apprentices in his philosophies. One still remains with him.

Relationships

Parents: (Germanium & Ankuroth): There is very little a dragon as old as Palinourous can tell about his parents. He remembers not if they're still alive, or where they dwell, only that neither were from Nature Flight, yet they moved to that land, where he was born and raised.

Siblings:
(All): He faintly remembers being the youngest of five children growing up, though the names of his siblings are long gone to dust. He doesn't believe any of them to still walk the land. If they still live, they do so in the service of their deity.

Mates:(Tien, Molokai, and Iona): Throughout his long life, Palinourous had three mates. The first moved on to another mate after sharing one nest with him. The second was a frail and pure-hearted soul whom he cared for as best he could before being called to war. The third, he fell for during his time serving in battle, and was the last mate he had before his memories were broken. He can't claim to know how any of them fare, but he can feel that they're each alive and well, and likely still live in Nature.

Offspring:(All): Palinourous had children with each of his three mates, and many of them chose the militant path of their father. As such, he fought alongside many of them in the Gladekeeper's name. He remembers scant names, of both his children and his wives, but he cannot remember which of his children died in battle alongside him, or how many. Attempts to remember the lives he cared for keeps him awake at night.

Friends:
(All): To say that he had friends is fair, to say that he has them still is inconclusive. Palinourous lives virtually alone near the edge of the world, with no social presence among other dragons...with one sole exception being his brightest and most faithful apprentice, Varda. Although the Spiral is sometimes more like the son he can't remember, the boy is also the closest thing he has to a genuine friend.

Familiar: Tigerblood Foo (Tigerblood Foo): A loyal guardian who follows Palinourous in his day-to-day tasks and watches over the small seaside glade where they live. Considering this Familiar a close albeit stoic companion, Palinourous has named the creature Shisha. It is a counterpart to his apprentice's Komainu.

Story

Learn From the Life that I Once Lived...

Much less a dragon, Palinourous is renowned as a myth, something whispered about behind bamboo fronds, and under quiet bridges: a wizened dragon, as old as history, who sees the truth of the world in his bejeweled pearl, and can answer the deepest questions of the universe... Much of what is whispered is exaggeration, but at the same time, much of it is replaced with an even more breathtaking truth.

Though one thing is certain in fact: for years, perhaps even decades, this Nature-eyed Pearlcatcher has sat on the edge of a small bamboo grove, its cliffs high overlooking the sea, while one young Wind dragon after another with a head swirling full of breezes and questions comes to ask him the meaning of life. It is an existence that is sure to tire.

Yet somewhere in the eternal influx of foolish adolescents, Palinourous has found many young ones with a solid head on their shoulders, and taken them in to his true teachings: philosophy, and combat. A dozen or more apprentices have left his domain to head into the world with their new knowledge. Only one has not. This final loyal apprentice now guards the small cove he calls his own, and protects it from intruders, whether they wish to rob his master of riches and wisdom, or simply ask why the sun rises in the morning and not at night.

This is the Palinourous the Kith met and learned from on their quest to seek the El Dorado. Yet in an ancient score of years ago, there was another Palinourous, and a story that belts truth into what folklore says about him.

Moons ago, this time-worn Pearlcatcher was a swordplaying lad in Nature Flight, who was drafted into the army of a woodland king at war. In leaving his mate in the care of another, he joined in the king's war, rising with skill, wisdom, and loyalty to become general of the army. In the conclusive clash of a decade-long conflict, Palinourous rode into battle with several of his own militant children at his side, and fought in the name of this king. Blood was shed, more than one of his own children were lost to the carnage, armies were worn weary...and...in the decisive fight between Palinourous and the opposing army's commander, his pearl was shattered, but so was his foe slain.

At this point, the trauma of battle seemed irreparable. Yet the king recognized what his general had done for him, and though he could not save his pearl, he saved his life. And upon awakening from his injuries, Palinourous was gifted for his bravery with the king's highest honor: the Scroll of Pells. This twisting insignia proves his knighthood to a kingdom now probably turned to dust with time. But more importantly, as part of the Scroll, the king gifted him a new pearl, the bejeweled gold orb he now carries.

By losing his pearl, Palinourous lost the greater portion of his memories (he knows not the name of the king he fought for, nor the reason they fought at all), and his mind remains fractured from that loss. However, by gaining this new gift, he regained his honor, and part of himself.

Though his sword has long since been sheathed, he fondles the orb like a true pearl, and carries as many of his memories in it as the reality of his situation allows.

Travelling to Wind has given him a long horizon between him and the land where his war took place, and he hopes that in the long stillness of the oriental land, his mind will be soothed to heal...

Valued Possessions: His scroll and golden orb, both given to him by the king of the army in his former home, and his sword and gloves, which he owned from long before becoming a general. He rarely carries his sword with him, though, as he fights in a different style now...

Habits: He has a dash of cynicism for the youth of Wind Flight this day and age. No doubt it's caused by being asked one too many times whether the dragon or the egg came first.

Breed/Color Changes: No previous changes. No future changes.
