Sassan is a rather unsteady individual. Initially recruited for his innate magical talent, he struggles with his identity; most of the time he displays the personality of a thoughtful, concerned young dragon with a passion for his job, but sometimes he can demonstrate a rather crazy, manic persona that only emerges when he is in large amounts of stress. It is not currently known which of the two faces of Sassan is his 'true self', or whether the two facets are even split into a pair at all - some have theorised that they are simply polar opposites of the same person.

Despite his inner conflict, Sassan is well-respected and loved by many in the clan, most of all by his mate Sokkara, but also by many other of the clan's Skydancers who see him as a sort of figurehead, second only in respect to the Chieftess. His admirers include Luxol, Aureate and Aloe, and whilst Pascale is wary of him, she is starting to warm up to him too.

Sassan's job tends to scare a lot of the easily prejudiced members of the clan. He is a necromancer - he raises animals and dragons from the dead under his command to fight for him or help him out around the clan, as well as protect their territory. Whilst it is very useful, his ability of temporarily calling back exalted immortal spirits for a short time have some declaring his job immoral - though so far, none of the deities have bothered to complain.

During the civil war, Sassan was forced to side with Morgana. Not only was his mate a strong fan of the Coatl, but Peony's strong morals meant that if she had continued to be leader, his line of work would probably have been banned. Ironically, though, whilst his chaotic self loves Morgana, his more neutral self actually understands Peony's policies a lot better. He has made it clear, though, that to keep his work, he is fully loyal to Morgana.
