It is said that when Paragon was hatched, dragons came from far off clans just for the privilege of seeing one born with such potential. Of course, Paragon is the one who had started those rumors, and his tongue is often known to craft lies. In reality, his birth was nothing special.

Considered bad omens due to their lack of colorful plumage, he and his siblings were born, raised, and then cast out to find their own lairs as soon as they were old enough to barely fend for themselves. Thankfully, Paragon was handsome and clever enough to charm his way into a clan almost immediately. That lair did not suit him, though, and after eating his fill from their food stores, he moved on to find someplace better. He did not have to search for very long. Finding a clan comprised almost entirely of Coatls, including one lovely female who bore an uncanny resemblance to himself, Paragon found his forever lair. His love for the Coatl female grew, and they swore devotion to each other. It was never good enough, though. He believed entirely that he deserved much more than the life of a common subordinate. His mate, Astrid, deserved to be treated as matriarch, and their children deserved better than to be bargained off to other lairs in return for their treasure.

At the time, Jotunheimr was in charge of the clan, and it was common practice for the offspring of those in lower ranks to be sent off to other clans in order to procure riches and favor. Paragon fought the ex-patriarch viciously for the right to keep his children within their lair. However, his strengths had never been of the physical kind, and though he was allowed to keep his daughter, Hilda, his two sons were lost.

He grew to despise Jotunheimr, and was ecstatic when the midnight Coatl was eventually overthrown. When the Wildclaw, Svikja, became the clan's newest leader, Paragon was the very first to pledge loyalty to her. Owing to his sharp wit and manipulative nature, he soon became her advisor of sorts, and his family's status within the clan grew. It was with immense satisfaction that he watched Jotunheimr and Fancy's latest offspring be forced from the lair, just as his had once been.

Paragon is a handsome and charming little Coatl who would appear kind and loyal to the ignorant eye. Oh, his clever tongue is adept at spinning an intricate web of compliments and fine words, but the wise will be wary of this pretty face. In reality, Paragon is cold and sometimes outright unmerciful. He wants nothing more than to become the clan's next leader and bring his family to the top of the pecking order, and he is perfectly willing to stab his clan mates in the back in order to achieve such a thing. Svikja might be the head of the clan, but Paragon is the puppet master and the neck that turns her. He has the ability to utterly ruin those who upset him, and all without lifting a single finger. He only has to let slip to the Wildclaw that someone had insulted her, and the matriarch will do his dirty work for him. With nothing more than words, he'll turn anyone into a weapon to be aimed wherever he pleases.

In truth, there are very few who have gained Paragon's sincere faithfulness, and even they are sometimes betrayed by his conflicting aspirations. As someone who was born with a claim to nothing, in his current position, he now feels that he is entitled to everything. He is self-serving and vain, and his loved ones are sometimes unintentionally left to pay the price for his behavior. However, in spite of his ambitious goals and selfish desires, he does truly love his mate, Astrid, and he adores and dotes on his only remaining child, Hilda. He would very willingly give his life for them if it came down to it, and he has risked his own skin for them on multiple occasions already without thought or hesitation. They are his everything, and he would give up the world for them if required.

As well as Astrid and Hilda, Paragon also often enjoys the company of August, who is the only member of the clan outside of his own family who the obsidian and white Coatl is genuinely fond of. Regarded by the clan as being nothing more than two very good friends, when he and August sometimes disappear together for hours on end, no one stops to question it. Not even Paragon's mate. And if August's feelings for him have moved beyond that of an average friend, Paragon does nothing to discourage it. On the contrary, he rather enjoys doing the opposite.

While his support for Svikja is infinitely stronger than it was for Jotunheimr, make no mistake, Paragon would still oust her in a heartbeat if given the opportunity. There is no genuine loyalty between them, only an understanding that they each have use for one another. Even so, their relationship is often times limited to mutual tolerance at best, and it is not uncommon to find them engaged in a verbal struggle for power and control. There are times when the matriarch does not wish to be advised, and the temperamental Wildclaw does not shy from snapping when the Coatl becomes too overbearing in his counsel.

Likewise, Paragon is just as talented with insults as he is with compliments, and he is not afraid to let them fly when the need for them arises.

Scholar
One of Paragon's defining skills is that he is one of few Coatls within the lair to have successfully learned to interpret and speak traditional draconic. He was taught by August, who was born as a Guardian and therefore knew the language despite later transforming into a Coatl. The two taught each other their respective languages, and needless to say, the talent has proved to be incredibly useful to him as an advisor, as Svikja cannot speak the Coatl tongue. As well as this, it also enables him to properly communicate with other clan members outside of his own species, including representatives from neighboring clans. In fact, his communication skills sometimes outrank Svikja's entirely, making him quite invaluable to her while negotiating with others.

Something that continues to baffle many of Paragon's clan mates is the fact that despite being surrounded by disease, this otherwise delicate looking Coatl appears to have never once fallen ill. While there are some who refuse to believe that he is immune to disease and argue that illness is what must have caused his feathers to lack the colorful pigmentation that is so valued by his breed, Paragon is always quick to deny such a claim and insists upon his flawless immune system being fully responsible for his impeccable health. If there is a stash of incredibly strong antibiotics located within his family's private living quarters, no one needs to know.
