Biography

Warden of the Bound
FN0gHUT.png
Persona
As a young dragon, Pith had believed honor to be a righteous course, something he should embrace with vigor and youthful enthusiasm. How the times have changed him. Since returning to his clan with his Charge and heavy gembond, there have been significant changes to his once honorable disposition. He's courteous enough in speech, yet when he addresses shadow dragons and outsider his deep voice rumbling in the gem-encrusted throat, one can detect hints of skepticism and distaste. The fact he returned with a heavy burden weighing on his broad shoulders changed him. It's not hard to hear the latent tones of jealousy when his family and 'perfect' sister are being discussed. He's sacrificed so much for what? To be pushed aside by his sister? There's a darkness stirring in the guardian, fueled at night by the terrors that slide icy cold claws into his mind. When his moods are particularly wretched, he is not above taking them out on the Bound caste it is his duty to watch over, or at the very least he stand by in silence while allowing Fetid and Decay their reign over the other plague dragons.

Background
Along with his sister, he was tutored to know everything the son of a clan leader ought, though he was particularly interested in the art of battle, tactics, and chivalry. The last seemed a strange focus for a shadow dragon to some - especially give his father's devious reputation - but idealized victory in a fair challenge. Exuberant and honorable as only youth can be, he left his clan early to begin his Search for a Charge. It was years before anything was heard of him, and when he returned he was not the same idealistic and honorable dragon he had been.

Wrapped in linens and weighed down almost nose to tail tip by gembond, Pith walked into his homelands like a living stone years later, too burdened to even fly. It was only his father and sister, Spirit, that recognized him and saw him to the healers, who worked for weeks to fight back the affliction that covered his body. After years of being on Search, he had been attacked one night by a mirror pack. Overwhelmed in his sleep, he was too injured by the attack to fly any great distance, and was perused to the edge of a swamp riddled with onyx cobras. Though Pith managed to cross it, he collapsed not long after escaping the other side, covered in bites. Luckily a mated pair of nocturnes were nearby enough to notice and kind enough to help him recover, even if by their own duplicitous nature they did mimic and mock him frequently during his stay.

Before he could fully recover, however, the mirrors had managed to circle the large swamp, and he and the nocturnes were again attacked without warning a few weeks later. Pith rose to defend his benefactors and struck down many of the attacking mirrors and eventually drove them off, likely aided by the new gembond armor that had begun spreading across his hide. However, he found the nocturnes perished in the fight, and the nest trampled, except for one cracked egg that been squashed into the mud in the chaos. Gathering it up and taking the unhatched dragon as his Charge, he turned towards home.

Finally home at last, the egg he had carried with him hatched into a striking female. However, his Charge Crypto had little need of a dragon that couldn't even fly for gembond, and in time he was assigned the task of watching the Bonded caste of the clan and ensuring they performed their work.

Derangement
Night terrors. Pith hardly sleeps for the memories of the mirror clan that attacked him while on Search, and when he does often he awakes with a roar and can be a hazard to any nearby dragons, with the exception of his Charge that typically guards him during his sleep. His lack of rest tends to make him very grumpy when awake.
