Persona Despite her savage childhood among her mother's mirror pack, Mantra can appear as calm as a clear night sky at times. She has a tendency to keep her plans hidden from those she leads, and rarely takes counsel from others. This doesn't impede her ability to lead, as she is incredibly intelligent and calculating. When things fall out of her favor, she is quick to fall like lightning on the ones that displease her. This Amazonian mentality means she keeps a firm grip on the clan's more conniving members, yet she is secretly relieved to only have the fighters of her clan and allegiance centaur herds to command, and though she is not impressed with her younger half-sister Spirit's magical focus, she respects her ability to lead and work with the scheming politics of the clan without the violence Mantra so readily resorts to. Oddly, though Mantra is usually direct, focused, and violent, she often turns to Sooth for religious guidance, and has worn the thorns of her faith for so long that they have left calloused scars on her shoulders. Background Born of the union of the clan leader and a mirror, Mantra was first brought up among her mother's pack. As a guardian, she had a difficult childhood until her father, Pneuma, pulled rank to have her brought into the heart of the clan. After having first learned the savagery of the mirrors, she seemed half feral to her new family and neighbors, and it was many years before she was able to accept her. What expedited this process was her impeccable service in the guard, and alliance she helped found with one of the largest centaur herds in the area. Despite the old distrust between her father's clan and Blunthoof's herd, she had a knack for picking up the customs of the equine peoples, particularly after she found her Charge - a centaur warrior named Duskwater. After the war and her father's seclusion, she found herself in charge of the clan temporarily. With her military background, father's lineage, and knack for diplomacy with both the centaur herds and mirror packs, she took to the role capably though unexpectedly - since those who might have been expected to take the job had either fallen or fled during the war. Even her trusted mother, Mayhem, had been chased out of the clan and had sided with the enemy. Though she kept the clan together, it was with relief that she stepped down her position with her father's return and became Master of War. Derangement Masochism. Mantra feels she is more focused, strong, and pure for the physical pain she has endured. She explains her willingness to leap into battle and endure the thorns on her shoulders in place of armor as religious fervor, and while pain has nothing to do with the Darkened Sisters' tenants, none really feel inclined to correct or critique her... |
