Biography
Matriarch
Persona Anima says very little, except to her mate and Charge, Pneuma, who she follows everywhere with single-minded devotion. Her usual silence is born from a blatant disinterest she regards most dragons with, yet when she does speak she possesses a a wicked laugh and has been known to make implied threats to members of her own clan, even when there seems to be no reason for it. A warrior through and through, she is prideful of her rank and station, as well as her own fighting prowess. She poisons her spines before battle with venom she gathers from her chimera's tail. They stained bright red long ago due to this. The gems in the bracelet she wears are a powder condensed into an antidote by her friend, Fete. She must eat them weekly to stay resistant to the chimera-poison that leeches into her skin or open scratches, but the antidote effect is too slow to save a victim, as if she would ever choose to pity a foe... Background Anima has never known her true parents. The wildclaw that had stolen her egg was disappointed to discover after holding it up to a light that the dragon within it possessed a guardian's shape rather than wildclaw's, and gave her egg away to a family of coatls. Having been told to expect a coatl, they too were surprised by the guardian that eventually hatched, but they decided to raise the scaly thing that emerged from its shell. As a guardian, Anima was never able to pronounce the coatls' humming language, and most of her adoptive family was hardly able to understand the Draconic she eventually learned from other travelers. The language barrier and her rapidly increasing size made it impossible for her to ever be particularly close to them, but she did manage to learn to fight and prepare herself for her Search from them before she felt the call that pulled her away. While on Search, she grew better at conversing in Draconic with others she met, but as the years dragged by she grew bitter towards the idea of ever discovering her Charge. Perhaps she had spent too much time with coatls, or perhaps there really was nothing out there worthy of her protection. Without a home, Anima kept wandering the Tangled Wood long after she had given up hope and hired herself out as a mercenary to non-guardians that did not deign her as a failure for her lack of Charge. Eventually though, she was hired by a skydancer and introduced to the clanleader, Pneuma, to serve in his ongoing war with an enemy plague clan. At that meeting though, she became instantly sure that this guardian was her Charge. While Pneuma was not initially pleased to have the silent stranger shadowing his every move, their growing respect for one anothers' abilities has bettered their relationship over the years, and Anima has proven herself a more-than-capable bodyguard and mother to their two offspring. Derangement Sadism. Though Anima has no respect for torture, preferring to see those that would oppose her or her mate suffer in battle, she resist drawing out a duel with excessive gusto. The poisons she coats her spines in causes searing pain in those she scratches as well, feeding her hunger. |
