Biography
Porphyriacus wordlessly hands you a lengthy scroll of parchment, one of several that he keeps tucked in his sash. In loopy, but legible, handwriting, it reads:
It is with great effort, and much jubilation, that I can finally publish this document, and hopefully provide its readers with a greater understanding of its bearer, named Porphyriacus by his remarkably doting mate.
Porph arrived within the Grove under bizarre circumstances. When the dragons of the Grove began to make contact with the surrounding beastclans, we encountered a serthis cult. As the serthis tell this story, an unusually large, almost transparent green egg appeared among one of their clutches. No female would admit to laying it - either out of shame, or because none had laid it. Nonetheless, they kept this egg until it hatched, later than the clutch it was found in, and the resultant creature somewhat resembled a serthis with extra limbs.
Thinking it some unfortunate mutant, or else a cursed egg, they raised the hatchling with mild distrust. It eventually began to develop feathers, and soon enough it was quite apparent that this thing was, in fact, a coatl. The dragon's adoptive mother, however, insisted he remain within the clan. She argued that not all dragons are bad, and furthermore that the "badness" within certain dragons was learned. By raising a dragon as their own, they could not only prove that dragons are capable of goodness, but become the most formiddable serthis clan in the Labrynth.
This cult - and herein lie evident my difficulties in understanding the language - came to revere Porph as something akin to a champion gladiator or local deity. It's unclear which, or whether the serthis consider both to be the same. In either case, he is now lavished with attention, riches (by the serthis' measure of the word) and what appears to be genuine love and awe. If anything, his mate is the least doting of his attendants; and yet seems to earn the most of his own affections.
Growing up among serthis, Porph naturally learned their language - which, thanks to the unique nature of coatl physionomy, he actually speaks quite well. Unfortunately, he neither speaks nor understands any of the draconic languages, hence the necessity of this paper documenting both his origins and his unusual methods of communication.
It is strongly recommended to speak to Porph through either his mate, Invictus, whom communicates with him in a manner best left to another document, or myself and my assistant, who now have a mostly-functional understanding of the local Serthis tongue.
Porphyriacus is aware of what is written on this doccument, and approves of its message.
Beneath the neat signature is a fading coatl pawprint in what appears to be flaking, dried blood.
