The Storyteller
Chronicler

"Fantasy is an easy story for anyone to tell. Reality is a much harder tale to weave, but even more rewarding when retold properly."

Alectrona is well known in the elder dragon circles and a frequent visitor to any congregation of old imperials. A traveling storyteller, she has wandered Sornieth for centuries, staying in any clan that will house her and listening to any tale they will tell. Sometimes it's the second or third generation of hatchlings hearing her stories, sometimes a clan elder will send for her to give her the story of their life before they pass. Others call on her for advice from the past, stories of how others dealt with a particular conflict. Sometimes however, she'll show up out of the blue after a momentous occasion, too perfectly timed to be coincidence. Though some have suspected clairvoyance, Alectrona maintains the Earth simply told her where to go.

Those old enough to remember her parents are unsurprised. She doesn't speak of them at all, but hunting through the heritage records leads to a pair of powerful drakes who carry their own history of mysterious power. She herself insists it's simply an Earthen power and all attempts to learn more about the elders or her childhood have been met with resilient silence and deflection. Rarely, she'll tell a story about her life since then: a dangerous encounter with a Coursefur Yeti while climbing all of Sornieth's mountains, the humorous attempts of one of her mates to deal with a riverflight infestation (though no one has figured out when in her life he was), or the longneck tribe she befriended deep in the heart of the Southern Icefields who later saved her life.

Mostly though, her stories are about other people or the ancient myths of old. She has the entire Origin of the Gods memorized, plus some beastclan myths, war stories from the time of the First Emperor, and the ballad of Boston and Hope. Her circuit often takes her through the Sunbeam Ruins, with its host of historians and record keepers who sometimes rely on her for accurate information on notable events. This time the Earth brought her to a clan she'd never met housing a number of old friends; Tyrith from Plague, whom she'd met on several battlefields, Himura from Shadow, who once served as her guide through the Foxfire Brambles. She's happy to stay here for now, to reconnect with old friends and hear the stories these people have to tell. At least until she feels the Earth's pull once again.

The call is strong. Impossible to ignore. Her dreams, her mind, her eyes, her body all turn westward towards Dragonhome and Alectrona once again picks up her things and follows the summons of the Earthshaker.

She does not dig herself, but she talks to those who do. Velya is very willing to talk to her; her name carries heavy weight among the old. They speak late at night, after the night digging begins, eagerness carrying old bones through the weariness. The characters around her are colorful; with so many ridgebacks (who naturally make up many excavation groups), things are borrowed frequently, to the loud disapproval of some other breeds. History is happening here, in front of her, that familiar feeling wrapping around her like electric cloth.

The Earthshaker moves the expedition invisibly, directing them through stone to ancient chambers, a revered glowing stone, an ancient city long-lost but perfectly preserved, and finally to an underground river split around countless statues.
