To the women of Sornieth,

You have been cordially invited by Lady Genoa and Lady Helaine of Clan Beltane to attend and compete in the first Light’s Eye Tournament hosted in over a millennium. The tournament is a celebration of all facets of dragon life, and held in honor of the late Lord Ordonos as a testament to his memory.

Only the most brilliant minds and strongest bodies from each elemental flight will be considered to compete in the competitions. After an intensive selection process to narrow the applicants, the Tournament will commence. Contests hosted include tests of battle prowess, mental skill, and artistic expression. One representative from each flight will be selected from the victors.

Those women chosen, who have proven themselves worthy, will be extended the opportunity to assist Lady Genoa and Lady Helaine in their life-long research concerning the mysteries surrounding the Hewn City in the Lightweaver's domain. This includes access to Lady Helaine’s private collection, proper training and resources, and the ability to live within the walls of her palace. Alongside this prize for the victors, there is a traditional monetary reward for any so inclined to participate.

As in the past, the event will be held on the palace grounds of Clan Beltane, seated at the border of the Sundial Terrace and Mirrorlight Promenade. Shelter, supplies, and entertainment will be provided courtesy of Lady Helaine.

Following the death of her only living relative, Lord Ordonos, Lady Helaine retreated deep into her palace, and deeper into her studies. Over time she left the palace less and less, until her being seen in the public eye was essentially an oddity. Eventually she ordered the walls built higher, and the clan territory contracted to just outside the castle walls to make her solitude absolute. Contact from the outside world was shut off, any letters and research sent to and from the castle were halted, and all staff was relieved from duty, sans her personal guard Thesilea and the secretive fortune teller Loa. It is rumored that in her mourning, she halted any studies pertaining to the Hewn City to instead focus on a study of her own psyche, and the psyche of other dragons.

The other nobility of the Sunbeam Ruins soon grew increasingly impatient with Lady Helaine, as not only was her former research on the Hewn City vital to the knowledge of the Light Flight, but she also locked herself away with the joint research of several Clans, without compensation. Any attempt at contact was met with hostility from Helaine’s guard, as the Lady herself refused to communicate at all with the outside world. After many failed attempts at contact, most decided it best to cut ties with Lady Helaine and leave her to her strange mourning.

Clan Beltane was thought gone to the world, millenniums of information and fortune locked behind palace walls to rot away with their shut-in patron Helaine. So when the elusive Lady Genoa presented herself with an offer and the palace gates unlocked themselves for the first time, the Light Flight nobility hailed her as a blessing.

Over the next couple of years, the two women worked together to rebuild Clan Beltane’s reputation. They used slivers of the massive fortune amounted by her father to repay other nobility and start small public projects for the betterment of Light’s Domain. Servants and staff were rehired, and research on the Hewn City was slowly restarted. And now that the summer has come to a close and the chills of winter are on the air, the joint decision was made to host the first Light’s Eye Tournament in ages to solidify the reformed Clan Beltane as the research mecca it once was.

But to this day, Lady Helaine has refused to release any of her research done during her time in solitude, nor can anyone quite pinpoint what Lady Genoa offered to open the gates.

Maybe some secrets are best left buried under the eternal night.
