The Leviathan Trench -- deep, impossibly dark, beyond comprehension -- seems to mark the end of the world, far below the cresting waves. Do not swim out into the blackness, for there is only madness waiting out there. Cling to the cliff sides and climb until you encounter a small cave, barely anything more than a crack in the rocks -- if you notice a small insignia, a crude drawing of an octopus with its arms splayed out, above the entrance, therein lies safety. If you enter, you will find a labyrinth of small tunnels. Most of them taper off into nothing, some lead in twisting directions, and many will only lead you back to the cave entrance. Follow the one with the softly glowing violet stones embedded in the walls ( it seems obvious now that I say it, huh? Like, duh). Don’t worry, it opens up more the farther you go. You will reach a round stone gate with the same octopus insignia carved into its surface -- this time, it’s more complex, with its arms curling and twisting in every direction, and obviously carved by a skilled artist; it’s incredibly detailed. It’s surrounded by strange, clearly arcane symbols, all of which are softly glowing with a purple light. You might see one just above the octopus that looks like lightning, branching in all directions, or one just below the octopus that looks like a complicated star. This gate is magic, although I probably didn’t need to tell you that. Beyond it lies a vast cavern, a pocket of the world above sealed away from the dark waters by magic.
Inside, glowing purple crystals like the ones in the walls of the tunnel jut out of the sides of the cavern, softly illuminating the grass that blankets the floor. Trees sparsely populate the area, growing under the light source of the cave -- a bright white light coming from the roof. If you stick around long enough, you will see the light dim and fade out, signifying nighttime. And if you stick around even longer, you might see the leaves change with the seasons to match the world above the surface. Small buildings where the dragons live are everywhere. This is the home of the Clan of Shifting Tides.

The Clan of Shifting Tides is a clan of artists, scientists, explorers, and academic mages. There are a few dragons here who would gladly fight for their clan, but for the most part it is nonviolent. We create and discover. Some of us build new technology, some of us write stories or create art, some of us go out to explore the world, and some of us spend our time researching new things we could do with magic -- like, for example, seal off a pocket of air and life in the cliff face of the darkest and most treacherous part of Sornieth. It is a clan of dragons who wish to delve into worlds beyond that of their original element; Plague dragons who study fire magic, Ice dragons who hope to become philosophers like the greatest of Light scholars, and all outcasts and misfits who don't feel at home anywhere else. We take in dragons who have nowhere else to turn.
The clan gets its name from its history of constant change. Our leader, Epsilon, started the clan as a part of the Lightning flight. We were originally mostly made up of scientists and engineers, but our clan made a promise to the world that we would inflict no harm on it unless it was absolutely necessary. Before long, the promise of nonviolence attracted artists and philosophers. We no longer fit in in the Lightning flight, so we relocated to the Arcane flight. Now we make our home in the Water flight, but who knows where we may settle in the future?
