Far below the Zephyr Steppes and high above the Spiral Keep, gentle morning mist enshrouds an estuary spilling past a pale sandy beach. Rocky cliffs line the water's shore, growing ever higher into the distance and extending up to the cloudcover. Nestled into the cliffside are fully-furnished caves for clan members, visitors, and families; hidden tunnels connect them to caves below sea level. On the other side of the river mouth is a lush green forest, so dense with brush the interior appears dark as night.

Some dragons are hard at work preparing a new cave for a growing family, while others forage and fish in the forest and river. Other clan members can be seen playing in the sand and surf with their young, or diving through the clouds as they exercise their wings. Still more dragons are unseen, working and socializing within the network of tunnels, or diving deep in the Leviathan Trench.

A whistling cry sounds through the area, echoing off the water. A clan leader has called an assembly...

The Sunbeam Grotto is a hidden sanctuary nestled between Wind and Water territories, built into the coast of a lagoon where the water is always calm. As the lair space knits together land, sky, and sea, so does the population - dragons born in Water contentedly cohabitate with dragons from all elemental regions. Here, a nomad can find a home, an exile can find acceptance, and any dragon without one of their own can find a family. Even during times of contention, the borders are always open, and the serenity of the shores imparts an overwhelming tranquility upon visitors hostile or benevolent.

What may not be visible on the surface is this clan's deep, mournful secret. While their present lives appear happy and carefree, the dragons living here have sacrificed their magic and youth to guarantee their safety. It's unlikely that an outsider will ever hear the truth from the tight-lipped elders, however...

i love letters from hatchlings! in my clan lore, young dragons are required to leave once they've reached maturity. so, to see where they've traveled in Sornieth since leaving my clan is really cool! i also love writing and receiving in-character letters!

about me: you can call me sunny! i am a 24 year old autistic trans man (he/him) building imaginary worlds in my mind through writing and art. Sunbeam Grotto is one of my favorite places, a tranquil bubble on the beach where everyone is safe and cared for.
i joined FR in 2014, but life led me away from 2016-2020. i'm so happy to be back from my hiatus and i've been greatly enjoying all the site's changes ^__^

• sunny's clan quests is where i track my breeding and gene projects and a general completion checklist! i also keep an art gallery on this page, as well as some helpful links.
• Sunset's Legacy is a free-to-adopt lineage project i started in january 2021 to share my love of my favorite dragon! the project now has tens of participants and hundreds of dragons with interconnected lore, as well as RP events in which the family members can reunite!
• Radiant Friends is a longstanding subspecies on this site for which i've recently taken up the mantle! dragons of this subspecies provide a sort of magical comfort to help their clanmates navigate all sorts of troubles.
• lore build with the sidebar is a guide i wrote listing possible careers related to each of the sidebar links with some lorebuilding questions interspersed!
• i've created some free bases to share with the community! i love to see others using my lineart, and i hope to add more bases soon ^__^
