WELCOME TO THE CONSTELLATION CONNECTION!
"...No, seriously, why are we doing this!?"
A purple Imperial with a distinctly crystal sheen walked alongside a pink Imperial who seemed to shed glitter. Though he seemed wary, head ducked down and glancing every which way, his glittery companion seemed unconcerned. Upon closer inspection, a dark blue Fae could be seen clinging to the hood of her cloak.
"Because we didn't do all this work for nothing!" the Fae shouted, not out of any strong emotion, but solely to be heard over the commotion of the Starfall Celebration around them. The pink Imperial's ears turned down, but her excited grin remained unfalteringly on her face.
"And besides, knowledge like this is meant to be shared! We mapped out an entire new section of the sky! We can't just hide it from everyone. We're a flight of scientists, dreamers; it's our duty."
The other two stared at her.
"Hey, Stardawn, everything cool?" the Fae asked. "We love you, but you're not usually prone to spouting wisdom."
Stardawn shrugged, expression turning serious for a moment.
"It's true, isn't it?" Her gaze flickered over to the other Imperial. "Hey, Tallow."
"Yes?"
Stardawn's grin returned.
"Tree."
"Wait, wh-" Tallow whipped his head around, only to find himself with a face full of luminescent leaves. He sputtered and shook his head as his two friends laughed at him.
"Okay, very funny, but Kaika?" Tallow turned to the Fae, spitting out a few leaves, though many still remained poking out of his mane. "Tree."
Kaika yelped and immediately tossed herself down Stardawn's neck to avoid getting her own face of tree. She rolled roughly down, scrabbling at Stardawn's cloak for some kind of purchase, but failed to find any, and she kept rolling, right off of Stardawn's back, landing with a soft "thump". Tallow laughed uproariously at Kaika laid out on the ground. She let out a soft groan and picked herself up, wincing as some of her clothing's more thorny bits poked into her. She face forward again, only to freeze in place.
The group had reached a short cliff, and just below was the field where most of the festival's venues were set up. Clusters of candles were set up along the various paths, waiting to be lit later that night. Other than for them and whatever light the booths and tents gave off, there would be no other lights, so as to provide as little light pollution as possible. Dragons of all flights were already gathered, milling about as Arcanites hawked their wares and games.
Perhaps most importantly, there was not a single tree to be seen in front of them.
"TALLOW, YOU JERK!" Kaika shouted, which only caused his laughter to redouble. Even Stardawn joined in, abandoning all pretense of holding in her laughter. Eventually, even Kaika let out a few snickers.
Once the laughter faded, the trio looked back out upon the festivities.
"So... where are we gonna set up?" Stardawn asked.
"On the edges," Tallow immediately answered. "That way someone from the Observatory is less likely to see us."
"Oh, come on, Dad won't be mad!" Stardawn said. "But fine."
The trio glided down to the fringes of the festival center, setting up their starchart ("I didn't steal it!" "Sure, Stardawn.") on a blanket and holding it down with a few astronomer's tools.
"Hey, everybody! You wanna make your own constellations?"
