PROLOGUE
a modified pinkerlocke involving the foxfire fortune clan~

Somewhere inside the heart of Sorienth lays the Ivory Tower. It is the goal of all Luck dragons to find it, their hearts are called home to it, but as of yet it lays undiscovered, hidden. Waiting to be found. Tales have been told through generations of young dragons being sent out on quests to find the Ivory Tower. Few came home, and fewer still spoke about their trials. What is known is the journey is a difficult one, full of sorrow and loss.

The Emperor and his Empress have employed three young dragons to find the Ivory Tower, offering to them a bounty of reaches untold. The Luck dragons are their adversaries, the Emperor and his Empress are selfish and greedy, they want to claim the Ivory Tower for themselves. The Tower must be filled with magic? Else why would the Luck dragons be called there?

On the heels of our young heroes are all manner of foe – some known, others a mystery that will be uncovered during our story. The survival of our heroes is not certain.

RULES
Original rules: Pinkerton’s Plundered Nuzlocke v3.0
modifications inspired by Treasured Knowledge, by Chloecat194; The Lover’s Curse, by Ranmaru; Beneath, by Thesfireflies

Basic rules:
A death in the coliseum = that dragon must be exalted.
All loot obtained in the coliseum is irrelevant, as is the loot obtained from gathering. Loot obtained in the coli may become part of the heroes story.

There are no restrictions about applying apparel to your dragons. Do whatever makes sense to you. Same goes for familiars.

And, most crucially, all nuzlocke activity corresponds with the loot you obtain daily from Pinkerton's plundered pile!

Optional sentimental rule:
If a dragon reaches level 25 it "retires". It can join the ranks of your main lair.

Drops of Fate:

Food: Coliseum time!
Plants: 1-10 matches
Insects: 10-20 matches
Seafood: 20-30 matches
Meat: 30-40 matches
Easy-mode: Choose whichever team and venue you want and go for it. Running from battles, using health potions, and ending the battle streak is fine.

Materials -or- Trinkets: Writing or art ~ art will most likely be colouring in pre-made free dragon bases, because I have no skill to actually draw anything >>

Familiars: RNG chooses another dragon from my lair - must be level 5 or lower. They are now a hero in this story and may be cycled in as needed.

Apparel: Dedication mechanic – see below

Battle stones: Roll a d10.
Odds = DEATH STREAK
Even = Nothing happens Dedication mechanic – see below

DEATH STREAK rules: Randomly select three dragons using a random number generator. Fight in the coliseum using the "food" rules 10 rounds consecutively (ie. you cannot leave that arena), quitting midway if a dragon dies. If you are using the easy-mode rules, switch to the hard-mode rules for battlestones.

Goodies!: Our Heroes will each have at least one favored item that they carry with them at all times. Whether it be for sentimental purposes or just something they find as really neat, they'll have at least one on them.

Why this is important to the story will be revealed along the way.

Losing:
This Pinkerlocke can be lost via a few methods.

-If a dragon's score falls to zero [0], they are removed from the Pinkerlocke lore story. They may or may not be exalted. See below for more information on scoring via the incoming mechanic.

-If all three Starter Heroes are phased out of the Pinkerlocke, this story ends and the Luck dragons find the Ivory Tower. The Emperor and Empress' reign crumbles.

Note: I won’t be exalting my permas, as they’re mostly pairs for my hatcheries, but they may be exalted if I change the pair out, and will be reflected in the story.
** In the Foxfire Fortune clan, exaltation is not seen as death, per se - it is more akin to Aztec sacrifice to one's deity, moving on from this realm to serve Them. Pearlcatchers are able to speak directly with the Exalted.

DEDICATION MECHANICS
- work in progress -

Each hero has a dedication mechanic meter. They all start at 100%, and if their mechanic reaches 0% they'll permanently leave the quest. If all three starting heroes dedication falls to zero, the pinkerlocke fails and the Luck dragons find the Ivory Tower, claiming it for their own - and this is canon to my subspecies' lore.

During a dedication mechanic challenge, a hero will be chosen at random using RNG, and a d10 will be rolled. Even means no change to their dedication, odds means a loss of 5% of their dedication.

[d3 : 2] In the end, the result was: 2 Rubix is selected Rolling Dice! [d10 : 7] In the end, the result was: 7 Dedication loss -5% It had been threatening to rain for days and the humidity was claustrophobic - the summer solstice was still a month away, and yet it felt as though the season was in full swing. Dragons in the Foxfire bramble were listless and tempers were flaring. That evening as twilight settled into the wood, the Emperor and his Empress called court and every dragon of the Fortune's clan was expected to attend. The rumour mill began to swirl, and fairies and fireflies whispers touched many ears. The children were excited, but the elders knew better. Their rulers were not the kind to hold court often - there would be a reason, and it would have consequences. Little did they know how far the consequences would reach. The Emperor and his Empress were beautiful as ever. Pearl's crystalline skin sparkled in the dimming sunlight, Rose wore armour made of thorns that would pierce any who got too close, and from her flank trailed ribbons and a sash. Their crowns were opulent and heavy. Their eyes, pink and red, scanned their gathered dragon denizens, as if searching. "Blue, of Roxane's house," the Emperor called out, his voice commanding. A young nocturne who looked like the night's sky stepped forward, given a nod of approval by her adoptive parents, the clan leader Roxane and his mate, Iris. Another small nocturne, a twin sister- Mauve- watched cautiously. Blue came before the rulers, and knelt. "Rubix, grandson of Duke," the Empress' voice was piercing, her gaze burning like the lands of fire from which she was born. A small coatl emerged, wearing emerald aviator gear that was too big for him. His carribbean blue claws adjusted his helmet and goggles, and he too knelt before the thrones. "Summerstorm, bastion of the Sky Leopards," the Emperor turned up his chin as the sun sank to where it could no longer penetrate the Tangled Woods overgrowth, and darkness crossed the lands - but only for a moment before the glowshrooms and bioluminescents began to awake and light up the night. A young spotted tundra stepped forward - her striped scarf trailing around her feet and knotted at her throat. Her ice eyes looked out, unsure and wary. Her furred feathers rustled, and she took her place and knelt. The Empress continued: "The three of you are called to action. Rubix, grandson of Duke, it is time for you to take up your pedigree and become a fighter for our clan. Blue, you come from nothing, and we believe you can make yourself into a legend. Summerstorm, there are storms coming on the horizon, and these two will need your protection and your healing. "Dark visions have plagued me for some time, and now we can be complicit no longer. Action must be taken. Somewhere in Sorienth there is a source of infinite possibilities - something that will save us from destruction. The Ivory Tower." A wave of murmurs began to roll across the gathered dragons. Many heads turned to a small collection of so-called Luck dragons. The clan had heard them talk of an Ivory Tower, that it was something they were called to find. One dragon stood at the words of the Empress; Falkor, the unspoken leader of the Luck dragons. "Empress, I must protest. The Ivory Tower is not yours to find." "Nonsense, Luck dragon," Pearl the Emperor rose a paw dismissively. "We have heard your tales, and have decided we will claim this Tower for ourselves - and for our clan! Your subspecies is selfish, calling the Tower yours, saying it belongs only to you, denying the clan who took you in, gave you a home, called you friends and then family! How could you keep your magic from us?" Falkor's eyes widened in denial, and a few other Luck dragons shook their heads. "That isn't.. That's not.. It isn't being kept from you, your majesty! It is hidden!" "And we will send these dragons on a quest to find it!" Rose snapped and motioned to the trio of young dragons. "W-what?" Summerstorm stuttered, and Rubix's little maw opened in confusion. Blue simply sat, stoic, watching the proceedings. Her Light eyes scanning back and forth from speaker to speaker. "But I'm not an explorer! I wouldn't know how to read a map! I don't want to be part of this story!" Rubix protested. While he was descended from a grand coliseum fighter, and he knew his way through a fight, the brightly coloured coatl protested. "This is not a suggestion. It is already written. You three will find the Ivory Tower, and become the heroes of the Foxfire Fortune clan," Pearl continued, sitting up straighter on his jeweled throne, the stones reflecting in his crystal skin. Falkor's chest began to fill, and his cheeks rogued. His eyes brightened, and he moved to be ready. "We cannot abide this recruitment of children, nor will we relinquish the Ivory Tower." "But you can't relinquish what you do not possess. You Luck dragons don't even know where it is..." "It is our legacy to find. Not yours, Your Highness," another Luck dragon named Oracle spoke up. She was shot a look of silence from the Emperor, but his Empress was quicker to action. Rose moved with the quickness of a thundercrack, and her serpentine body with swirls and scars moved to appear beside the antique-coloured Luck dragon. Falkor stood on the ready to defend her, but Oracle motioned him down. "We will claim whatever we like, and for the good of our clan, the Ivory Tower will belong to us." Rubix watched the goings-on and did not like the confrontation within his home. He looked like he would flee. He even took a step. Blue's gaze landed squarely on him, and the little coatl found he could not run away. Summerstorm padded over to Rubix and sat next to him comfortingly. "Is that understood?" the conversation continued, but there would be no compromise. "It is the will of the Empress," Falkor said through gritted fangs, and Rose relented, returning to her throne. A smug smile curling her lips upward. The monarch's attention then returned to the trio of young dragons. "You'll need your luck to guide you. You can take no weapons. You must rely on your unique skills. This is your quest. It begins now. Say goodbye to your families but do not dawdle. We're relying on you three to save us." Save us from what? Rubix could barely form the words before he was pulled along.

Rubix watched the goings-on and did not like the confrontation within his home.

We're relying on you three to save us."

Save us from what? Rubix could barely form the words before he was pulled along.

DAY TWO [item=stardust sap lamp] "But where do we even start?" Rubix was unsure. "This way," Blue said flatly, and began to pad west. Her Light-coloured eyes occasionally darting up to align with where the sun had sunk below the horizon. Summerstorm and Rubix looked at each other, but followed. The trio walked in silence for what seemed like hours, sometimes the brambles of the Tangled Wood were so thick they had to walk in a line: Blue always leading the way, and Rubix trailing behind, with Summerstorm in the middle, routinely looking over her shoulder to make sure the anxious coatl kept up. "I don't think she'll wait if you fall behind to far," the smart tundra said over her shoulder, trying to talk to him. "Maybe I should," he grumped, and slowed his footfalls a little more. Blue moved further ahead. "This isn't a good idea," Summer chided but slowed her gait as well. Rubix was inspired by her attention, and he stopped his march entirely, and jumped into a low hanging branch of a tree, letting his pink wings hang down like sakura moss curtains. They fell behind, and Blue disappeared out of view. The spotted tundra looked up and set her lips in a line. "You should come down. We have to keep moving, by the Empress' decree. I wouldn't want her ire on our head, look at how she spoke to the Luck dragons." "Maybe they're right; who are we to find their Tower? They've been looking for it for generations," Rubix moaned and his tail swang side to side. "Who we are is who the Empress wants us to be," Summer answered after a moment's thought, and gave the coatl an invigorating smile. "That doesn't sound very promising..." The sound of wood being dropped to the ground unceremoniously broke the pair from their conversation, and there sat Blue, looking put out and unimpressed. "If you two insist on stopping, this is as good a place as any to set up camp for the night," the sapphire sparkling nocturne said quietly. "Tell me one of you knows how to start a fire?" ------------------------------------------------- Pinglist: @MitraSunshine @Chloecat194 @Demonchild77 @Ranmaru
