He usually wandered the wilderness alone, and while having no sense of taste was useful in that he could consume even Highland Dryleafs normally, it would certainly not help him with cooking! After a couple of minutes of meekly looking around trying to mentally communicate he had stumbled into the kitchen by mistake, a curious look from a judge sent him scrambling to try and make a dish. Although he could eat Highland Dryleafs normally, even he didn't really like it's bitter, rooty taste. Maybe if he thoroughly washed it and covered them in sugar it'd be ok? While he let them soak, he squinted at the Turkey Dinner in confusion. Wasn't this dish already cooked? He was too scared to mess with a dish that seemed already finished, so he simply fit it into a pan, added some carrots and rosemary, and carefully brushed a honey glaze over it to try and give the turkey a more golden color and put it into the oven. Bamboo then finally turned to look at the last ingredient, one he had been purposely avoiding. His FAVORITE Dried Anchovies! Call it a strange food to love, but he could eat them like a whale eating krill! Glancing around he snuck a couple of the small fish to eat before tossing the remaining with some garlic into a pan with oil to make a simple anchovy oil. Taking the Highland Dryleafs and lightly rinsing off the excess sugar he then lightly sauteed them in the anchovy oil. With a lot of embarrassment, Bamboo realized that he had been plucking one too many of the Dried Anchovies to snack on, they really weren't much to such a big imperial...at least he had already gotten the anchovy oil, which would hopefully add a little more flavor to the dryleaf. That counted...right? After taking the turkey out once it looked to be more golden, he carefully cut and plated it with the roasted carrots and sauteed dryleafs. He looked up uncertainly, and once catching the attention of a judge, he mumbled a soft "sorry" before giving it to them. He really couldn't taste whether it was any good, especially that dryleaf. ----- @Eialyne Could I also be added to the pinglist? ^u^

She then added a bit of roasted Smolderpetal and continued mashing the mixture. As the turkey came out, she put the mash into a ramekin and tucked it next to the turkey, bringing the salad over too. As a garnish, she added some more Smolderpetal before calling over a judge. She presents her Turkey stuffed with Dryleaf, Fish Oil, Wild Mustard, and Tundra Cactus. It has a dip on the side made of mashed Dryleaf, Smolderpetal, and a bit Fish Oil for wetness. She also has a fish salad, which is made of Dried Anchovies, Sunbeam Rotala, Wild Catsup and Redblood Sapper.

She suddenly spotted a tent with delicious smells wafting out. "Don't wait up for me!" she called out to her siblings, who just groaned and walked away. She raced up to the tent and asked one of the dragons milling about for instructions.

Soon, she was all set up.

She took out the Highland Dryleafs and scrunched up her snout. No, that wouldn't do. She chopped up the dryleaf and set it aside, hoping to figure out what to do next. The anchovies were lying there, mocking her. She decided to get to work on that.

She tossed it and decided to add some Wild Catsup for the tomato-ey flavor, to make up for not having any tomato items in the game -- I mean, what? It's not a game...

Afterwards, she took a look at the salad, and groaned. She'd have to come back to that one later. She eyed the Turkey Dinner, deciding to stuff it with something good. She felt a glimmer of hope upon seeing the final ingredient though, Highland Dryleaf. While other dragons were recoiling at the taste of it, Eulalia knew EXACTLY what to do with it. "Oh good! The Highland Dryleaf will work perfectly to make Beau's famous tea! I'm going to have to figure out some way to incorporate it into my main dish as well though..." she trailed off, lost deep in thought, trying to remember everything that Beau had taught her about using difficult ingredients. "I HAVE IT!" She shouted after some time, "I'LL MAKE A SALAD!" She then noticed everyone around her started staring, as she had been yelling so loudly. "Oops! Uhhhh... I'm sorry everyone! Please don't mind me!" She shuffled awkwardly towards her workspace, tripping in the process and further embarrassing herself. She wasn't about to let a little embarrassment keep her from competing though, and quickly regained her composure. She continued working, shredding up bits of the Turkey Dinner and setting it aside to rest, washing and chopping up the Stellaria Media, Highland Dryleaf, Black Tulips, and Crisp-leaf Amaranth, and she actually managed to remember to pull the Smolderpetals off of the fire before they burned! Eulalia then combined all of the ingredients, minus the sauce and Black Tulip petals she had prepared. She felt she had done a good job, but was still nervous at what the judge may say.

Which were dashed when some rather large scraps of food (or rather the less edible parts of some ingredients) started getting launched through the air, several of which landing smack dab in the middle of the plate Sienna had just placed infront of Kakigori, sending the rice splattering everywhere. Furious, the judged launched herself up in the air to zoom over to where two contestants from rival clans had just started a food fight and started chewing them out, too preocupied with getting them to stop to see if Sienna could salvage her dish. ((Fried rice is seriously one of the best stand-by meals ever. It's my favorite thing to make with leftovers, provided I have rice already handy)) @AthenaCorvus The judge of the day lived in a Wind clan so she was quite familiar with the hyperactivity of Spirals. She was also quite sure one of her clanmates was one of the most hyperactive Spirals in existence. It stood to reason she should be used to that sort of behavior by now. Nope. While a part of her marveled that Asha somehow managed to not slice and dice his own body while going at the ingredients all at once, she instead maintained a somewhat forced as she desperately wished to have something she could cover her ears with to block out the song he was singing. Even if you hated the song it was stupidly catchy, and the last thing she needed was Spitz, Ruin, Zevran, or even Kruda, to hear her humming it without realizing and make tonight unbearable for the non-spirals at Wayfarer's Rest. Leaving to go hunt down Brachs and figure out why he hadn't sent dispatches back yet was becoming more and more of a pleasant idea. "Nicely cooked and presented," she said quickly once it was time to judge Asha's dish, "but the fig and the oyster clashed badly. One or the other would have sufficed to direct the flavor profile." It was blunt and to the point, but Kakigori was hoping the sooner she got away from the Spiral, the sooner she might have a chance of saving herself from earworm. @Deladria "A simplistic dish but done well," Kakigori told Amharath as she took a few more bites of her dish, "Though it is lacking quite a bit in-" What it was lacking in wasn't to be found out. The pressure cooker that Amharath had used to prep her meal was starting to glow and shriek horribly. "What's going on?" the Skydancer asked Gourmet, who'd been on appliance duty that day. The wildclaw gave a shake of her head, looking utterly baffled, "It was just fine when I showed the contestant how to use it!" It was then that the pressure cooker exploded into a shower of scrap metal and pink sparks. The rest of Amharath's dish went spilling to the ground and the three dragons ducked for cover. "I am going to tie Spitz in knots he can't get out of if I find out he was behind this!" Kakigori growled, trying to remember if she'd seen the Arcane Scientist anywhere near the gadgetry when it was delivered earlier. While she was fuming, Gourmet apologized to Amharath and directed her to the tents where she could pick up some packed lunches to replace her ruined meal. ((I confess to grinning madly when you included a pressure cooking that's of both Arcane and Lightning make. I have three dragons in my clan that specialize in that sort of thing so this was too good of an opportunity to pass up!)) @CalandoAdumbrate Kakigori wasn't huge on salads, but this was the first one she'd been served today so it deserved some bonus points. The fact that is was prepared perfectly and had lovely presentation? Just icing on the cake! Er...dressing on the salad? "You don't normally associate fish with salads of the plant variety, but the the anchovies work very nicely, and aren't so crispy that they compete with the croutons." As she pops a few more of the previously mentioned croutons in her mouth she gives Orissa an appraising sort of look. "I don't belive you mentioned...would you consider yourself an amateur or a professional cook? While I'm not sure that Light trick of yours is terribly practical, you certainly seem to have a talent for bringing out the best in lack-luster ingredients." @deadpan Kakigori was not good with hatchlings. At all. Of course she had had nests, but it's not as if she did much with the children that came from them. That was the Nestkeeper's responsibility after all. So as she found herself looking down at the tiny little fae and the dish he was bearing, she found herself faltering and at a loss. Should she just treat him like any other contestant? Be overly nice? But she didn't do overly nice! And it was a simple dish, but should she take his age into consideration when deciding if that was a sign of his skill level or not? Ugh...she hadn't prepared for this sort of situation at all. "Did you remember to wash your claws or wear gloves?" She asked, nibbling at one of the breaded turkey bits. Judging by the look on his face at that question, she presumed maybe he wasn't quite as young as she thought. "Centaur rations do make for good breading, though it's a bit too rough. Grinding it out a bit would have made the consistency more pleasant and less chunky." @BettaFishy Kakigori's eyes widened slightly as she ate a few more bites of Bamboo's dish. "This is...an interesting taste. You put something sweet in here?" After the Imperial answers she actualy laughs. "Using sugar on highland dryleaf? That is something I have never seen or even heard of doing, and yet it seems to improve the ingredient a fair amount! Between that and the anchovy oil, I'd say you did the best job of preparing the dryleaf while leaving it roughly intact instead of incorporating it into a dough or paste." "However while this dish is excellent it's not quite perfect. While coating it in honey helped keep some of the moisture in, roasting the turkey a second time made it quite over-cooked instead of simply warming it back up or adding more flavor to it." @Ribbons "It's a bit soggy, isn't it?" the skydancer asked Yarrow as she poked a bit at the stuffing that had come out of the turkey. "You want to keep it moist but there's such a thing as too much." Sniffing at it she figured out what the problem was. "Ah, cactus? Certainly not the worst idea ever but even the tundra variety contains quite a bit of water. She wouldn't consider herself an expert, but it was her prefered drink of choice and she'd tried quite a sampling thanks to her travels. However highland dryleaf tea? That was new. And it didn't seem like it was her...well...cup of tea. It may have been she was still stressed out from dealing with the damaged property incident, but the smell of it wasn't appealing to her at all and reminded her distantly of something unpleasant. Burnt rubber? No...not nearly that bad. Burnt something though... However the salad component was delicious. Kakigori had been worried upon first glance that it was going to be just like the salad she'd had earlier, but Eulalia had used different plants, which resulted in a different taste. "I would have toasted teh amaranth seeds with the smolderpetal though," she suggested, "Still use the leaves of course, but the seeds would ahve been a nice, crunchy topping.

@Quinineer

Kakigori noticed right off the bat that Sienna moved easily and comfortably around the cooking area, with the practiced moves that showed she knew what she was doing (a stark contrast to Orange; the skydancer was quite certain that she was still going to be cleaning honey out of her feathers despite being very careful when sampling that entry), and Kakigori had high hopes for what she was going to present.

It's my favorite thing to make with leftovers, provided I have rice already handy))

@AthenaCorvus

The judge of the day lived in a Wind clan so she was quite familiar with the hyperactivity of Spirals.

One or the other would have sufficed to direct the flavor profile."

It was blunt and to the point, but Kakigori was hoping the sooner she got away from the Spiral, the sooner she might have a chance of saving herself from earworm.

@Deladria

"A simplistic dish but done well," Kakigori told Amharath as she took a few more bites of her dish, "Though it is lacking quite a bit in-"

What it was lacking in wasn't to be found out. The pressure cooker that Amharath had used to prep her meal was starting to glow and shriek horribly. "What's going on?" the Skydancer asked Gourmet, who'd been on appliance duty that day.

The wildclaw gave a shake of her head, looking utterly baffled, "It was just fine when I showed the contestant how to use it!"

It was then that the pressure cooker exploded into a shower of scrap metal and pink sparks.

I have three dragons in my clan that specialize in that sort of thing so this was too good of an opportunity to pass up!))

@CalandoAdumbrate

Kakigori wasn't huge on salads, but this was the first one she'd been served today so it deserved some bonus points.

While I'm not sure that Light trick of yours is terribly practical, you certainly seem to have a talent for bringing out the best in lack-luster ingredients."

@deadpan

Kakigori was not good with hatchlings.

Grinding it out a bit would have made the consistency more pleasant and less chunky."

@BettaFishy

Kakigori's eyes widened slightly as she ate a few more bites of Bamboo's dish. "This is...an interesting taste. You put something sweet in here?" After the Imperial answers she actualy laughs. "Using sugar on highland dryleaf? That is something I have never seen or even heard of doing, and yet it seems to improve the ingredient a fair amount! Between that and the anchovy oil, I'd say you did the best job of preparing the dryleaf while leaving it roughly intact instead of incorporating it into a dough or paste."

"However while this dish is excellent it's not quite perfect. While coating it in honey helped keep some of the moisture in, roasting the turkey a second time made it quite over-cooked instead of simply warming it back up or adding more flavor to it."

@Ribbons

"It's a bit soggy, isn't it?" the skydancer asked Yarrow as she poked a bit at the stuffing that had come out of the turkey. "You want to keep it moist but there's such a thing as too much." Sniffing at it she figured out what the problem was. "Ah, cactus? Certainly not the worst idea ever but even the tundra variety contains quite a bit of water. Drying or trying to press out a good amount of it before stuffing the turkey and putting it in the oven might have salvaged the stuffing."

((Hah, I see what you did there with the game reference XD *loves tidbits things like that*))

She had brought many of her own tools from her clan's lair, although there was no lack for options around her. She had taken off a few of her ornaments to free her limbs up a bit, but most of them were still there, contrasting sharply with her dark scales. She wasn't a very fussy dragon, or even very inclined toward jewelry as a rule, but these were gifts from her children, and she wore them with pride. She smiled fondly at the ring as she slipped it off and into a pouch for safekeeping. She turned back to her workspace, and hefted her cutting board into place, finishing her song with the lyrics "-with a bumble and a flea!" Both her cooking and her music were well-known in the clan. In no time, she had minced the Highland Dryleaf. She measured it off, eyeballing it more than anything, followed by spices, an egg (a very large egg), and clear water. The Dryleaf took some work, but with patience it could be made into a savory and hearty dough. She kneaded it, then placed the ball of dough under a towel to rest and set it aside to prepare the Turkey Dinner. It was pre-cooked, with a nice array of vegetables. Perfect for filling dumplings! She chopped and cubed, dismantling the not-insignificant meat with skill. Next, the Anchovies. These were the most challenging part, being a small and more delicate task. Breccia was dexterous, but you can only account for so much when you're a snapper. The harvested meat would have been unappealing to any hatchling peering over her shoulder, but she had long learned that the process may be all sorts of mess, so long as the finished product is made well. She brought the dough back out, dropping the weight of it on the table a few times. She rolled out sheets and cut squares, dropping a generous spoonful of the turkey and sardine filling into the center of each. Once she had no more of either, she started folding the dough into dumplings. She sealed the packets and pressed the edges, then finally gathered them all up to boil. ---------------------------------------------------- While the dumplings finished cooking, Breccia tidied her station like a whirlwind in reverse. Utensils and dishes cleaned and stowed, waste in a bin, scraps saved for familiars to snack on later. She had just replaced the last of her jewels when she tilted her head as if hearing something. She smiled, and huffed out the cooking fire. She drained the pot, and poured dumplings onto the tray from home. She popped one into her mouth, then turned to go bring the rest to other celebrants.
