Kakigori noticed right off the bat that Sienna moved easily and comfortably around the cooking area, with the practiced moves that showed she knew what she was doing (a stark contrast to Orange; the skydancer was quite certain that she was still going to be cleaning honey out of her feathers despite being very careful when sampling that entry), and Kakigori had high hopes for what she was going to present.
Which were dashed when some rather large scraps of food (or rather the less edible parts of some ingredients) started getting launched through the air, several of which landing smack dab in the middle of the plate Sienna had just placed infront of Kakigori, sending the rice splattering everywhere. Furious, the judged launched herself up in the air to zoom over to where two contestants from rival clans had just started a food fight and started chewing them out, too preocupied with getting them to stop to see if Sienna could salvage her dish.
((Fried rice is seriously one of the best stand-by meals ever. It's my favorite thing to make with leftovers, provided I have rice already handy))

The judge of the day lived in a Wind clan so she was quite familiar with the hyperactivity of Spirals. She was also quite sure one of her clanmates was one of the most hyperactive Spirals in existence. It stood to reason she should be used to that sort of behavior by now.
Nope.
While a part of her marveled that Asha somehow managed to not slice and dice his own body while going at the ingredients all at once, she instead maintained a somewhat forced as she desperately wished to have something she could cover her ears with to block out the song he was singing. Even if you hated the song it was stupidly catchy, and the last thing she needed was Spitz, Ruin, Zevran, or even Kruda, to hear her humming it without realizing and make tonight unbearable for the non-spirals at Wayfarer's Rest.
Leaving to go hunt down Brachs and figure out why he hadn't sent dispatches back yet was becoming more and more of a pleasant idea.
"Nicely cooked and presented," she said quickly once it was time to judge Asha's dish, "but the fig and the oyster clashed badly. One or the other would have sufficed to direct the flavor profile."
It was blunt and to the point, but Kakigori was hoping the sooner she got away from the Spiral, the sooner she might have a chance of saving herself from earworm.

"A simplistic dish but done well," Kakigori told Amharath as she took a few more bites of her dish, "Though it is lacking quite a bit in-"
What it was lacking in wasn't to be found out. The pressure cooker that Amharath had used to prep her meal was starting to glow and shriek horribly. "What's going on?" the Skydancer asked Gourmet, who'd been on appliance duty that day.
The wildclaw gave a shake of her head, looking utterly baffled, "It was just fine when I showed the contestant how to use it!"
It was then that the pressure cooker exploded into a shower of scrap metal and pink sparks. The rest of Amharath's dish went spilling to the ground and the three dragons ducked for cover.
"I am going to tie Spitz in knots he can't get out of if I find out he was behind this!" Kakigori growled, trying to remember if she'd seen the Arcane Scientist anywhere near the gadgetry when it was delivered earlier. While she was fuming, Gourmet apologized to Amharath and directed her to the tents where she could pick up some packed lunches to replace her ruined meal.
((I confess to grinning madly when you included a pressure cooking that's of both Arcane and Lightning make. I have three dragons in my clan that specialize in that sort of thing so this was too good of an opportunity to pass up!))

Kakigori wasn't huge on salads, but this was the first one she'd been served today so it deserved some bonus points. The fact that is was prepared perfectly and had lovely presentation? Just icing on the cake! Er...dressing on the salad?
"You don't normally associate fish with salads of the plant variety, but the the anchovies work very nicely, and aren't so crispy that they compete with the croutons." As she pops a few more of the previously mentioned croutons in her mouth she gives Orissa an appraising sort of look. "I don't belive you mentioned...would you consider yourself an amateur or a professional cook? While I'm not sure that Light trick of yours is terribly practical, you certainly seem to have a talent for bringing out the best in lack-luster ingredients."

Kakigori was not good with hatchlings. At all. Of course she had had nests, but it's not as if she did much with the children that came from them. That was the Nestkeeper's responsibility after all.
So as she found herself looking down at the tiny little fae and the dish he was bearing, she found herself faltering and at a loss. Should she just treat him like any other contestant? Be overly nice? But she didn't
do overly nice! And it was a simple dish, but should she take his age into consideration when deciding if that was a sign of his skill level or not? Ugh...she hadn't prepared for this sort of situation at all.
"Did you remember to wash your claws or wear gloves?" She asked, nibbling at one of the breaded turkey bits. Judging by the look on his face at that question, she presumed maybe he wasn't quite as young as she thought. "Centaur rations do make for good breading, though it's a bit too rough. Grinding it out a bit would have made the consistency more pleasant and less chunky."

Kakigori's eyes widened slightly as she ate a few more bites of Bamboo's dish. "This is...an interesting taste. You put something sweet in here?" After the Imperial answers she actualy laughs. "Using sugar on highland dryleaf? That is something I have
never seen or even heard of doing, and yet it seems to improve the ingredient a fair amount! Between that and the anchovy oil, I'd say you did the best job of preparing the dryleaf while leaving it roughly intact instead of incorporating it into a dough or paste."
"However while this dish is excellent it's not quite perfect. While coating it in honey helped keep some of the moisture in, roasting the turkey a second time made it quite over-cooked instead of simply warming it back up or adding more flavor to it."

"It's a bit soggy, isn't it?" the skydancer asked Yarrow as she poked a bit at the stuffing that had come out of the turkey. "You want to keep it moist but there's such a thing as too much." Sniffing at it she figured out what the problem was. "Ah, cactus? Certainly not the worst idea ever but even the tundra variety contains quite a bit of water. Drying or trying to press out a good amount of it before stuffing the turkey and putting it in the oven might have salvaged the stuffing."
((Hah, I see what you did there with the game reference XD *loves tidbits things like that*))

A missing clanmate. A food fight erupting. An exploding, magical pressure cooker. No one couldn't say that Mistral Meals had an uneventful first day, but nothing quite filled Kakigori's chest with horror.
She couldn't be sure what happened. It wasn't as if Meathe had just left his knives laying around on the ground, but somehow thanks to the assistance of a rather heavy Guardian, one of them had been snapped (thankfully said Guardian was relatively unscathed thanks to having heavily scaled feet). It was one thing if any of the equipment provided at the contest was damaged...that's why they had extras of pretty much everything on hand and spent a fair amount of their Jamboree budget on making sure it was the case. But for something belonging to one of the contestants to get damaged?
A very....expensive looking item.
Possibly sentimental too. Kakigori had heard of chefs who were very particular about their knives.
"I am so sorry!" She exclaimed, the submitting dumplings laying forgotten as she mentaly ran through her options to remedy this. "We shall replace that for you at once! Let me just figure out what the procedure should be fore submitting a claim...we haven't had anything like this happen before."
((Fair warning when it's Ursus's turn to judge if Meathe is competing that day: the honey obsessed Tundra wants to take up bee-keeping so he might badger your dragon for tips
Yes I like to check out the lore of my contestants. Yes I also know this makes my judging time longer ">>
Also thanks to you I want dumplings now despite it being way past midnight at this point...))

Kakigori enjoyed a good tea. She wouldn't consider herself an expert, but it was her prefered drink of choice and she'd tried quite a sampling thanks to her travels. However highland dryleaf tea? That was new.
And it didn't seem like it was her...well...cup of tea. It may have been she was still stressed out from dealing with the damaged property incident, but the smell of it wasn't appealing to her at all and reminded her distantly of something unpleasant. Burnt rubber? No...not nearly that bad. Burnt something though...
However the salad component was delicious. Kakigori had been worried upon first glance that it was going to be just like the salad she'd had earlier, but Eulalia had used different plants, which resulted in a different taste. "I would have toasted teh amaranth seeds with the smolderpetal though," she suggested, "Still use the leaves of course, but the seeds would ahve been a nice, crunchy topping.
