Listening to your grumbling stomach and following the signs labeled "Mistral Meals," you're led away from the main cluster of festival tents to a large clearing a reasonable distance away.
What first draws your attention when you reach the clearing is a massive stone slab, easily large enough for several of the larger breeds to work around it, and upon closer inspection there appears to be areas carved out along the edges to allow smaller dragons to work there as well.
While the workspace is easily the eyecatcher of the clearing, further inspection reveals a variety of tents along one edge, and an assortment of ovens, firepits, and even some strange looking Lightning tech line the opposite side. Several dragons are running back and forth between the assorted tents, checking lists and moving items (mostly large crates of food) while a red coatl barks orders at them.
The one dragon who doesn't seem to be terribly occupied is a somewhat nervous looking tundra who appears to have firmly planted himself in front of a tent labeled "SECRET INGREDIENTS! KEEP OUT!"
"Oh, hello!" He calls out when he sees you heading over his way to inquire about the event, throwing on what he no doubt thinks is supposed to be a charming and welcoming smile, but his lips seem to twitch slightly, betraying his nerves, "Are you here for Mistral Meals? We're just putting on some finishing touches for today's challenge, but if you just head over to the bar over there the challenge will be announced soon."
"Challenge?" You ask, confused, "I just wanted to get something to eat..."
The tundra laughed. "Well you certainly can get that here. The catch is you have to make it yourself. Wind Flight is all about creativity, so we're big into the DIY side of things. However, instead of just making food, we've turned it into a bit of a game, where we've chosen some ingredients based on Tempest's travels through Sornieth, and contestants have to make a meal to impress that day's judge using them. You get to keep the food you make, but you also might end up with some fun prizes!" He stuck his chest out a bit, trying to look impressive but only succeeding in looking fluffier. "My name's Urus, and I'm one of the judges this year. I really like honey if you're looking to score bonus points with me."
"What sort of ingredients?" You ask, trying to peer around him to look into the tent.
The nervous laugh returns and he quickly does his best to nudge you away without being too rude. "Well, that's spoiling the surprise and Bloodstone will kill me if she sees you over here, so run along now." He gives you another insistent nudge, "but if you'd like to try your hand at cooking, go find a space at the counter!"
The Game
Welcome to Mistral Meals! This challenge is for all users out there who enjoy food and cooking, whether they have real life skills in the kitchen or not!
For those of you who have participated in this event in previous years, nothing drastic has changed except for the name (and that's only because we're not hosting a IRL component this year). For those of you joining us for the first time, keep reading for a rundown of how the contest works and the more specific rules.
Every day I will post three Flight Rising food items in the challenge post. It will then be up to you to write up a post that has one of your dragons attempting to create a meal that will impress that day's judge (one of the cooks from my clan plus a couple guests!). I will then use a RNG which will determine how well you do and what prize you win as a result. On top of that, each entry will earn a raffle ticket for a drawing at the end of the Jamboree, so be sure to come back every day for higher chances at those prizes below!
Note regarding challenge updates: Since I (theoretically) should be asleep when rollover occurs, challenges will be updated when I wake up. This should be around 05:00FRT, but this could vary. As a result, don't feel pressured to get your entries in before rollover. So long as they are posted before I change the challenge post they will count as valid!
Rules
- Only one entry per user, per day. Feel free to respond to judging posts or other contestants, but you only get one shot at a daily prize.
- You must use at least one of your dragons in your turn, though you don’t have to use the same one all week.
- You must use all three of the posted ingredients, but you are allowed and encouraged to use other ingredients (whether they exist as in-game items or not) in your post. Assume that every potential ingredient and/or cooking device is available for your dragons to use (some of the more advanced gadgetry has been nabbed from Lightning).
- Entries are encouraged to be written as role-play, but I'll also accept recipe format, just so long as it is written in-character/associated with one of your dragons.
- Technically there is no word length minimum or maximum. Write whatever is most comfortable for you, so long as all three challenge ingredients are used.
- PLEASE BE PATIENT! I love doing customized RP results for each and every one of you, but I do work a 9-5 job. Falling behind is to be expected, but rest assured I will get to everyone in order. If a new challenge is posted and you haven't received a response to your previous entry, don't worry and go ahead and reply to the new one! It won't count against you.
- Try not to ping me unless you need to get my attention for a question or to be put on the daily pinglist. I don't mind if you do, but I will be working my way through the thread a post at a time to hand out prizes and this will be easier to keep track of more pressing issues.
