@BlueTrillium @tigressRising

Ooh, great ideas for Water Fleet! I did have Light as having the best detection systems, sort of as an opposite to Shadow's stealth, but...I can definitely see now how that would fit Water, too. Maybe Light's systems could be better suited to pure information gathering purposes, like determining the habitability of a planet, while Water's is more suited for combat purposes or actively changing situations?

@Llealynarisia - Hmm perhaps Water's is more on the future/predictive end. Such as, like you say, Light may get the most detail and/or gather lots of current info, but Water's superior predictive analysis can (in various situations) make up for having less or less-extensive starting data? Like, Water can put together odd little clues and come up with a solution that surprisingly ends up correct. Kinda like Sherlock Holmes. Light has the info, but Water can put the info to use in unexpected and surprising ways.

And Tidepatoot save the galaxy if Water gets ahold of some of Light's detection/info-gathering technology, because that plus Water's analysis would probably mean no secret was safe ever. xD Or alternatively they might get overwhelmed by so much input data that they'd explode in a whirl of excessive possibilities.

I think Plague would travel in loose packs, with a couple core clans, but otherwise constantly changing members, a little bit like Mirrors. I imagine we'd combine biological warfare with ramming/boarding the heck out of other ships, fighting up close and personal to spread more disease!

Also, the core ships of the flight would be large and very hard to move, so it would make sense that they'd have a planet/multiple planets that they usually hang out by. The planets themselves are not aligned, but most flights think of them as 'Flight territory' anyways.

Also, wouldn't it make sense to have some exalts as crew members on the Core Ships? Those things need maintenance, too.

I could see Plague working together with Ice to create and experiment on the most dangerous alien lifeforms in the galaxy(and then purposefully accidentally release them to cause havoc for the other flights.

And what if exalting meant having your brain scanned and uploaded to your flight's central hub deity-run supercomputer, and your body becomes an empty shell in the process.

I'm not watching SOMA right now, what are you talking about?

@BlueTrillium I think that would work perfectly~ I'll add that to the Water Fleet section here in a second.

@Houndstooth That's actually a pretty good point. I was thinking that there likely would be clans that are (semi)permanently attached to the hub ships, and those would be the dragons who help run and maintain them, while clans that are only temporarily attached could volunteer until they leave...but that's a potential idea, too.

@DarkDragonfly That's, uh...actually kinda what I envisioned exalting to be in this AU, oops. XD I wanted to maintain the permanence of exaltation. As for what happens to the bodies afterwords, well, that would probably depend on each fleet's individual customs. Or it could be a combination of this and Houndstooth's idea; at least some of them upload a copy of their consciousness, but they still inhabit their physical bodies, and thus help with running and maintaining the hub ships.

First: PLEASE PING ME FOR ANYTHING BASED OFF THIS. It looks very fun ^^

Some comments based on @dreamtime's ideas (and others as well):
Water: Trying not to get too perpetual-motion-y, but that water IS going to need to circulate... I dunno, I can see Water having (secret?) biotech components as well. Or maybe they just use space-leviathans for their ships?

Nature: Giant solar panels will need giant batteries for interstellar travel. I agree with Nature ships being pure biotech, possibly similar to Juraian tree-ships?

Plague: Definitely scavengers/retrofitters, definitely biotech, probably zerg.

Fire: “The sun is a mass of incandescent gas; a gigantic nuclear furnace” (emphasis mine)
I figure Fire ships would be powered by “traditional” fusion generators. (Possibly fission generators as a backup, or on older vessels?)

Earth: ..I have no idea. Maybe these guys still use fission generators? :/

Arcane: One of my dragons already has a prototype personal-use Fold drive from a Arcane clan—besides, “magic” is just sufficiently-advanced technology, right? ;p
Arcanist is probably the only one with sufficient astrogation skillz and data to get a artificial-wormhole -style drive to work, IMO.
I'm going to assume they've managed to get point-source/vacuum-energy to actually WORK, but each clan keeps voiding the warranty on theirs in new and interesting ways XD

Shadow: They're just Romulans playing at being Ferengi--or is it the other way around?. Even if you can find one of their ships, you'll never know what really powers it (lol)
(If the Shade isn't represented by the spider-ships from Babylon5, then that's what I'll imagine Shadow Fleet uses)

Wind: Solar sails and planetary-flight specialists? Eh, I guess so. They'll still want something better than hitchhiking for interstellar flight, though.

Ice: Not needing as much energy for heating helps during interstellar flight... though it makes interplanetary flight a bit more difficult. (they'd have to find ways to store the solar heat, or just be able to channel it around the ship or summat)
Probably also using old-or-scavenged main power sources, though. Lots of Ancient Tech available here.

Light: mini neutron star, or just naked singularity?

There are always exceptions to the rules.

oh man oh man ping me too if anything comes of this *w*

reminds me a bit of Starbound, what with the different races and different styles of ships. FRbound with the dergs and deities would be amaaaaazing <3

i'd also love to see this turn into a community rp it'd be great omg

@StrykeSlammerII Those are all good points and suggestions. For Wind Fleet, I'd imagine they'd have some more conventional/reliable transportation for interstellar transport. The solar-sailed ships would be kinda like what horse-drawn carriages are today; a quaint novelty, ridden for fun.

I also imagine that Wind Fleet as a whole probably had the most difficulties adjusting to life in space, as wind is a phenomenon that can only really occur on planets with atmospheres, or, to a lesser extant, structures that are able to hold air inside them; stellar wind is similar only in name. This could potentially explain why their ships are still designed with planetary conditions in mind.

@After The more people talk about how this would be a cool rp, the more I get tempted with the idea of starting a group. I'm definitely gonna need to develop the setting more, however, and figure out how groups are run on this site first.

I can, however, start by making a pinglist. You two are definitely added~
