Swiftwing took a deep breath and stood as still as he could. He did not even dare to turn and tell Emerald about this bird thing. The feathered creature stared right back at Swiftwing, and Swiftwing found himself starting to wonder what he was even doing.
Just as he was running out of patience and just wanted to swipe at the annoying critter, it leaped off the ledge, glided over Swiftwing's head and dropped something at his feet. There was a rustle of paper and Swiftwing looked down as the bird vanished into the shadows.
Soft steps sounded behind him and he heard Emerald ask, "What's that?" She bent down and picked up the scroll that the bird had brought. It was tightly bound by twine, but Emerald cut it and unfurled the paper.
"Emerald, are you safe? The rest of the Clan is waiting for you in the Sea. Bring any survivors you found back here, and the Water dragons will help them. We look forward to seeing you come back! From Terrae, your mentor." she read.
"So the Clan is at the Sea, then," Swiftwing reasoned. "Well... I really hope we will return with survivors. And lots of them, hopefully."
Emerald nodded, sticking the papyrus into her supplies bag.

"Let's go," Swiftwing urged as he stretched his arm to help Emerald up onto the ledge he was standing on. Maria stood beside him. Strangely, she had not made any move to escape back to her Harpy guardians, which made Swiftwing doubt if they were heading into an ambush.
At last, they leaped the last stretch onto rocky ground. Ahead of them, the electricity-powered sector of the Shifting Expanse seemed to buzz with energy. "Well... Here we are," Emerald commented, looking over at the lightning farms their Clan sometimes went to visit.
Looking up, Swiftwing's eyes caught a feathered shape flying across the sky. The sparrow from last night! Emerald's gasp told him she saw it as well. Maria paid it no attention, fiddling with twine in her claws.
"Look, the sparrow messenger. I wonder why it's still here," Swiftwing asked in wonder. Suddenly, the sparrow dived, and let out a shrill call before zipping away into the midst of the lightning farms.
