These vampire dragons (better known as Mordramia) come in a variety of different colorations (otherwise known as mutations or strains), and these can affect how the vampire behaves, what sorts of abilities they have and their own weaknesses. You don’t have to stick to the guidelines- they’re your dragons of course! - but if you wish to partake in the group’s RP, then please stick to the behaviourisms, abilities and weaknesses as best as you can (IE: don’t make a Somerra dragon that constantly likes to fly around and doesn’t need earth to sleep on- that goes against what has been written and intended!) [center] [img]http://i.imgur.com/ni7t9Is.png[/img] [/center] [color=850012]A weather beaten hand entrapped within a stone tablet, reaching out to escape from its depths- or pull someone in? Symbols, letters of a by-gone language, swirled all around the exterior of the tablet, engraved deeply into the rough-hewn granite like rock. An alphabet that was waiting to be unlocked and unburied from the past, shedding light on stories and legends that the sands of time had buried. Lies. The Shade had merely twisted the Arcane runes that the leather-skinned folk- let’s call them apes, shall we?- seemed to enjoy so much, patterning them in such a way that instantly drew attention to itself and its perplexing image. The hand, a trap that seems all too obvious to us dragons now. Hidden away in a small shrine dedicated to the Shadowbinder, the Shade lay in wait, ready for its first victim of many- to lay waste to so much of the land that the deities- the acclaimed prize the Shade so longed to defeat and lord over- would rise from their slumber to be destroyed utterly and be no more. Soon, a dark ape found it’s way to the Shrine and was instantly attracted to the object. As soon as it lay its hands upon the tablet, the symbols began to glow faintly with a dark and eerie light, spreading up the arms of the ape and feeding manipulative, imploring thoughts into it’s brain. Without thought, the ape took the object and brought it back to the Arcane facility that had been erected on the edge of its village, letting others marvel away over it but never letting the tablet out of it’s sight. A meeting was held, and all the villagers were gathered to see the tablet and it’s apparently decipherable symbols; as the meeting wore on, the ape that had found the tablet crept around the room, clothed in the Shade’s darkness as it carried out their orders- for once the ape had touched it, the Shade had taken root inside it’s mind, gnawing and forcing more and more of itself into it until only a husk of the creature remained. It locked all the doors and windows out of the room. Lunging up the steps to the pedestal where the tablet was placed, the ape thrust it’s head into the stony hand’s grasp, where it immediately wrapped it’s short stubby fingers around it’s skull. After what appeared to be a fit, the hand released its grasp on the ape’s head and it slumped heavily to the floor for a few moments before jerkily rising upwards again. The changed ape turned towards the gathered and opened its jaw wide, revealing row upon row of terribly sharp canines that seemed too big for the mouth to contain. The dark hollows of it’s eyes locked upon an elder in the front row and with a slowness that could only be likened to the felling of a great tree, the monster- there’s no two ways about it now- fell upon the other, crushing it under it’s mighty weight whilst draining the elderly ape of all it’s vital life essence: blood. Screams and cries washed over the walls as the villagers tried to escape as the monster languidly lapped at the dying ape’s blood. Lights cracked and flickered, arcs of vibrant blue lightning crackled in the corners as a gale of horrendous laughter silenced the shrieks of the ape’s below; many fainted at the sight of the Shade’s true form ripping the top of the building off as if it were just paper and drooling pure terror down into them. One by one, the monster that had been created fell upon another, draining them to near death before forcing some of it’s own tainted blood into them and causing them to change into a mindless beast just like it. Soon all had become infected and the Shade released them into the wild, letting them mindlessly infect all those that they came across, whilst others guarded the tablet and dripped tainted life essence into the hands outstretched palm, absorbing it and slowly coloring the rock to a rusty red hue. In a fit of desperation, several high mages created a massive compound around the infected, burning any wanderers in reams of fire- the only sure way to kill them. In time, the infected were forgotten, left to eat their comrades and wilt away. A huge reactor was built, miles of copper wiring glinting in the vast desert. Festivities crowned it’s awakening and subsequent exploding, eradicating all life upon the battle-scarred planet; this purged the Shade of it’s grip on the planet until it could only seethe in boiling anger around its galaxy. As their hold upon the planet weakened, the Shade wrapped the relic that had started all this chaos in a casket of amber and protected it against the blast as much as they could before dropping it and fleeing to the stars. [center][img]http://i.imgur.com/fASaJW5.png[/img][/center] [color=850012]Many years later, a young Intern of the Lightning flight stumbled upon the artifact and he, along with the rest of the Lightning flight and the Arcane flight, poured over the mysterious runes and symbols that twisted across the surface of the rust-red tablet. The tablet seemed to be made of stone but never had any of the dragons seen stone of a color so morbidly dark as this. After a few months, the dragons were finally able to extract a red gunge from the stone. By examining it closely, the Interns discovered that it had the same structure of some form of Plague disease- they thought it to be reminiscent of one of the first diseases that created the Plaguebringer herself! With much excitement, dragons of the Lightning flight poured a great deal of time into trying to identify characteristics and mannerisms of the disease. They found it to be highly adaptable, depending on its current surroundings. Finally… a serum of the disease was created. Scavenging around the edge of the Sunbeam Ruins, an unhatched egg was found and quickly sent back to base, where the serum was injected through the membrane of the egg itself. With scarce sound- not even a breath- dragons watched the egg, eager to see the effects of the disease finally manifest properly, and not via computer simulations. Before their eyes, they saw the embryo inside darken, and seemed to curl in on itself. Swirling plumes of darkness erupted in the embryonic sac, concealing the embryo from view, as the outside of the egg hardened like frost creeping over the ground. Soon, the egg had completely hardened, and seemed almost impenetrable. Disappointed- for there were no bangs or explosions, or really anything exciting happen at all- the egg was incubated for the usual five days, which turned into six, which turned into seven. Convinced that the egg would not hatch on the eighth day, and having taken down all notes of observation, an Intern was sent to dump the egg in the murk of the Forum of the Obscured Crescent, as it would blend in and no one would look for it there. As the egg sank to the bottom, the thick secretions of the Shadowbinder collected around the egg, a tiny drop slipping beneath the thick plating of the egg, through the pinprick hole that the needle had left behind and into the embryo itself, affixing a new gene to the raw DNA left there. All at once, the shrunken form of the embryo grew and morphed, reconstructing itself as it combated the disease that very nearly killed it, fighting it until they overthrew it, but the plague had already left it’s telltale marks upon the unborn dragon. A ripple in the murky water announced the hatching and arrival of the hatchling, much to the surprise of the Shadowbinder. She didn’t recognize the breed, but after a few days, she adopted it as her own (due to the hatchlings tricksy playful ways and habits of morphing into mini-versions of her highest exalted) and named the breed ‘Nocturne’. Soon, more nocturnes appeared to be springing up all over Sornieth, much to Lady Shadowbinder’s great delight. Watching the first Nocturne grow up, she couldn’t help but notice that it only drank the blood from any animal it hunted, as well as its nocturnal habits and that it burned in any form of light save for candlelight or bioluminescent light. As Lucian- the infected hatchling- grew up and explored the domain of the Shadowbinder, he understood his differences from other dragons, and no matter how much he tried to blend in, he was still ostracized from the other clans. Upon finding others like himself, Lucian learned more about his abilities and his past, which served only to fuel a quietly burning anger towards the Lightning flight and their unnecessary genetic trials.
