This is a constructed language I started developing in 2011, and through a [i]ton[/i] of trial and error and complete revamping, it has finally settled into a usable form! Originally used for the dragon original characters I've written into my stories, the language is easily transferable to the Flight Rising world, so I thought I would clean it up and make it open for public use. Drakish is a character language mostly based off of a syllabic alphabet. I have put together a basic introductory guide, and am working on adding a full set of practice sheets so anyone can easily learn the script. The language is still a work in progress, so there are plenty of ways you can help! Whether it's through making advertisement graphics, suggesting new words, or double-checking my own grammar and asking tons of questions, I'm open to everything. [center][size=6][b]Word Submission Guidelines[/b][/size][/center] Help me build my dictionary by submitting words! There's a bit more to it than putting syllables together, though, as I'm trying to keep a full linguistic system going here. You're going to need a couple things pulled up: the [b]dictionary[/b] (to make sure you're not repeating a word), and the grammar guide turned to the [b]Phonology [/b]section. This has a list of all the syllabic alphabet groups and their corresponding basic alphabet syllables. You can choose from any syllables, including from the alphabetic letter sounds, and you can mix-and-match by using apostrophes to drop half of a syllable's sound (either the first or the second, but you must keep the vowel) or add a single letter sound from the alphabet rather than the full name of the letter. You are also going to need to take a look at the [b]Word Construction[/b] section in the grammar guide. This is a list of prefixes, suffixes, and infixes that can affect word meaning. Think about the English word, and how it might translate. Ex: rejoiceful --> [i]ra'kurzh[/i] Ex: beautiful --> [i]ze'kurm'urzh[/i] Ex: water --> [i]tanill[/i] Ex: large region, Earth --> [i]veldt[/i] Ex: ocean --> [i]tanillenveldt [/i][lit. "water in a big region"] Also, think about roots. In Drakish, the words for "light" and "to be in love" share a root. So do the words "capture" and "fascinate" (a captivation of the mind). The root does not need to made of the same syllable combinations each time; it is simply a mixture of sounds that can be recreated any number of ways, so long as the sound group itself is mostly intact. Each word also needs to be assigned an element: air, fire, earth, water, light, darkness, spirit, or structure. If the word is a technical term such as a conjunction or simple verb, it is marked as "uncategorized". Each element can contain words that fit its category both literally and figuratively. For example, "light" is categorized as a Light word, but so is "time" [harking back to the days of sundials --> therefore Light]. The Spirit element refers to both literal ghosts as well as emotions and things connected to emotion and expression, such as legends. If your word is monosyllabic, it doesn't need to follow any of the rules relating to sound, [b]but [/b]you also need to submit a [i]unique character [/i]along with it.
