The Mother of Many joins Ion Chef!

Feeding children her children was not easy and with experience, always came great recipes.

- For the utmost delectable tacos! Mama Mona recommends:
Dollops of fresh sour cream alongside chopped green onion garnish combined with rich Monterey jack and tangy cheddar sauce blended with cayenne pepper, heavy cream. Mixing the two, creates an even richer creamier sauce!

- Jalapenos, garlic, tomatillos, onions, a few cherry tomatoes, lime, cilantro to taste, and Poblano peppers roasted and blended! This special salsa verde creates a harmoniously spicy and acidic sauce that cuts down the sour cream and cheese sauce!

- Even more tomatoes, lime, cilantro, and onions to create the fresh pico de gallo. An excellent topper and also helps break the fatty and creamy flavors. Great alternative for those who can handle the wicked spicy salsa verde!

- To fit all stomachs of every dragon that is fed by Mama Mona, their choice of protein- whether it be meat, veggies, fresh fruit, or crunchy bugs! Mama Mona recommends tossing them in a garlic and onion powder blend. Her secret ingredient is a little bit of dried Butcher's Fig. It adds a gorgeous color to the taco and a little sweetness to bring everything altogether!

- Fresh flour tortillas, heated in the pan for at least 2 minutes until a nice golden brown is achieved on both sides. Creating the perfect vessel to contain all the delicious goodness of a taco!

Stardew is not happy that he has to cook dinner tonight (Christmas usually takes care of these things, but she's conked out in the hibden). But tacos is something he knows how to make, so he gets started.

He sets a skillet on the stovetop, turns on the burner, and pours some oil into the skillet.
Rusted Iron Pot Firestarter Vegetable Oil
He chops some green onions and bell peppers.
Ancient Knife Red Delicious Apple Sour Green Apple Granny Smith Apple Wild Onion
When the oil is hot enough that it starts to ripple in the pan, he tips the chopped veggies into the skillet and stirs them while they sizzle and become fragrant.
Pristine Trowel
Once the veggies begin to soften, Stardew slices open two packages of ground beef and plops them into the skillet. He minces the meat with his spatula while it browns, so that he ends up with cooked crumbles of beef.
Salted Game
With the meat nice and browned, it's time to add the spice! Stardew dumps half a container of Fiesta taco seasoning (the clan's favorite brand!) into the skillet, then adds a cup of water, and stirs until the spice is finely distributed. He brings the water to a boil, then reduces the heat and lets the meat mixture simmer for 12 minutes.
Cerdae Sparkle Vial of River Muck Copper Pocketwatch
While the meat mixture is simmering, Stardew prepares the fixin's. He gets out tomatoes, salsa, shredded lettuce, tortillas, and hard shells. That way everyone can choose how they want to fix their tacos: salad, soft taco, nachos, whatever their weirdo little dragon hearts desire.
Red Delicious Apple Analogous Pigment Blend Water Lettuce Dusty Marigold

Stardew is lactose intolerant and gets really bad heartburn, but he gets out some (corn) chips and queso (cheese sauce), a jar of sour cream, and some jalapenos. He grumbles the entire time about "young dragons who can eat whatever they want."
Centaur Ration Pouch Sticky Pollen Parched Clay Jar Golden Pepper

There's the kitchen timer! Dinner's ready! Before Stardew can even yell for the rest of the clan, they come stampeding into the kitchen.

Returning to the kitchen counter, Stardew asks "where's my plate?"

But Stardew is too late. There's nothing left.

Impact hummed she was making her favorite pastry today!

First flour Acorn , Heavy Grainbasket , which she quickly whipped and baked then Bittercrisp Apples and Aether Cherries for a tart fruity filling.

Impact then moved and placed the sweet doughy treat inside the small carcass of the Arctic Lemming ; a sweet but wild meat flavored treat before setting them out on the table of her bar.

A wildclaw Padded up and sniffed the hunk of steaming meat
"Smells sweet what is it?"

"try it"

He bit into it; almost spitting out in surprise as a tart sweet filling flooded his mouth between bites of meat.

Impact nodded a small bowl towards him
"You can push fish butter on it too"

I make it with Billy Bass and Flying Butter

With a nod she slathered a meat bun with the butter and popped it into her mouth as the Wildclaw frowned

The trio pauses to stare at the judges of the cooking show for even longer in silence with this newest prompt. “Didn’t… we already do that…?” Calianth asks his partners, breaking the silence with audible confusion instead. “Didn’t you say you made a year-end feast?” Nerith muses. “You know, the one where you paralyze a giant eel so that it holds still long enough for people to try to eat it? I’m still amazed we actually found one that survives the cooking process. And figured out how to convincingly make it appear like it didn’t.” Yes, by their standards, this is already the absolute height of a culinary masterpiece. They’d put so much work into the trickery in the name of the Night of the Nocturne. “Maybe they want something that isn’t a veiled attempt on their lives.” Selrath can only imagine. They’re Lightning hosts, so of course they wouldn’t be familiar with how… routine this sort of thing is around here. Maybe it’s still new and novel to them. Their own clan’s head engineer does tend to eat whatever’s put near her without looking at or thinking about it. “Dang. I already did meat jelly, too.” Calianth shakes his head. “Who knew they’d keep wanting culinary experiments? I guess this is where all the mad scientists come from. We’ll have to figure out something that’s even more impressive than everything we’ve done so far…” They convene around the forge to start thinking of ideas. “All those suggestions are thinking too small,” Calianth decides, after they consider the judges’ initial ideas. “If they can think of them so easily, it’ll never be a good surprise. We must think on a grander scale than they have. Disguising cereal as a cookie, cupcakes made of meat… bah. Those aren’t absolutely wild. I’m sure the two of you know what we have to do.” “Yes…” As much as she often doesn’t look, act, or sound like it, Selrath’s spent a decade together with these two, running a clan that’s ended up in the heart of Shadow. She can think like it. Sometimes. “Given what you’ve already tried… I don’t know how we’re going to do it, but instead of serving a dish that looks like another dish, or something lethal disguised as a dish… We’re going to have to make something edible that looks like it’s going to kill you.” “And we’re too good at eating things,” Nerith interjects. Well. She is. It’s actually just mostly her that’s good at eating things and with an extreme level of horrendous willingness to try to pry food out of anything they encounter. “We gotta make it look really, really inedible. One of those giant golems. Even I can’t get food out of those.” Unless oil counts as food. She’s not so sure it does. They use it in food, but that’s different. Drinking oil directly is icky. Putting it on other things is the way to go. Terrible drink. “Right.” Calianth’s pleased that they were all able to reach the same conclusion so quickly. He could never imagine running this clan with anyone else. “We’ll split up again. Only got a day to do this. I’ll go pull Moriteth and her fleet of golems out of the workshop. I’m sure she’ll assist us for this purpose. As necessary, I’ll be working with her to get any ingredients she needs to make it appear truly lifelike, and constructing the skeleton of the thing. And the drill, of course. Can’t forget the drill.” “I’ll work on getting everything we need for the rest of it!” Nerith is delighted at the mere prospect of a project on this scale. Especially one that’s supposed to be edible. “Selrath, bring cooking equipment so you can cook and come with me? Pleaseee?” The Golem Workshop is actually a lot less pleasant to go into on her own. Her skill at putting herself back together is not good enough for that place. “All right, all right,” Selrath sighs. “It’ll be faster and more efficient that way, anyway. Come on, we’ve only got all day.” And a lot of the day will be past them before they even finish gathering supplies, she’s sure of it. Much, much later in the day, several dragons have gathered in the event venue, each hauling separate loads of supplies. “A’ight, so, lucky for us, there’s several things what conduct electricity,” a Mirror with a small golem floating by her side announces. “Th’ stingers of [item=Electric Stingers] can be used— not th’ body, it stops it. They can be used as lil like nerves though. [item=Steelhound Drone] got a lotta conductiveness to ‘em. Metal. Lotta metal. I’m thinkin’ we can use ‘em as the primary material. If we use somethin’ what’s real sturdy like [item=Jungle Pith] we can wrap the lil rat guys’ meat around ‘em and give ‘em shape, thread the stingers through it. [item=Charged Duneberry] an’ [item=High-Voltage Almonds] conduct real well an’ I’m not actually sure if the almonds c’n produce their own. Once they’re cut off the main plant probably not. But only probably. Th’ less bright ones, [item=Luminous Almonds], ain’t half bad neither.” (Bonus: Seafood, meat, plants, 3/4 categories) “So, there’s that. I was thinkin’, for a skeleton, if we used th’ berries an’ almonds for joints, where it’s hard t’ put the pith. Use stingers ta keep it all connected. Pack a bunch a’ the meat in there. Ya sure brought back enough of ‘em. And I’ve got no shortage of ways t’ get the initial lightning going.” She waves a paw over at the several [item=Electrician's Power Pack] scattered around on the ground. “Th’ golems can help me build an’ direct all that current. We’ll have ‘em each powerin’ a limb so it’ll walk around an’ really be able to spin that drill.” The golems she’s talking about are, of course, her [item=Golem Gauntlet] she’s never seen anywhere without, and… the other half dozen their clan seems to have acquired at some point. None of them even remember trying to get that many. The engineering department has many whispered half-serious theories about golem reproduction. (Bonus: 2/5 non-food items) “We can use the hard shells of creatures we brought back like [item=Crystalplate Wasp][item=Giant Isopod] to hold everything we’re shaping in place,” Nerith announces after Moriteth is done talking. “Getting rid of the stingers… but there’s no reason we can’t add in the meat from those kinds of creatures. We’ve already got it. Just pack it around the stuff we’re using to conduct all the electricity. We have a lot of vines to use to secure it all together. [item=Honeycomb Fragment] can help make stuff stick and stay in place that way. Plus we want a nice variety of tastes anyway.” Apparently. (Bonus: Insects, 4/4 categories; flavour: sweet) “That, and we got a nice variety of scrap parts to use!” She brightens up more at the thought of that. “Selrath’s been helping prepare the meat stuff and shell critters. I’m helping shell robots. We’re doing great.” She gestures over at the scraps on the ground— [item=Borer Scrapmetal], obviously, but bits such as [item=Black Iron Segment], [item=Spare Tendril], and [item=Copperplate Shell]. “We can use a lot of the isopod shell and dyes from [item=Inky Baby] or [item=Inky Octopus] to get a bunch of shell that’s edible but looks the same shade as the giant golem’s parts. Should be a bunch of plants that can create dye too. Honestly just try adding whatever you want to the ink, we don’t exactly have a shortage. The tendrils can be used to connect large parts of limbs, and the bolts we can use for realism, as like… an accent.” (Bonus: 5/5 non-food items) “The crystal shell is clear when removed, but not as fragile as a glass isopod’s, so we’ll be using that for the parts that need to seem like they have light shining through.” Selrath takes over without a pause. She’s already gotten the shells off and a lot of the dyes mixed. And started working on the fire effects. “We found that we can use fire magic such as [item=Sear] to catch things on fire, obviously, but also to activate the magical glow of [item=Dayglo Thresh]. [item=Fire Flower] goes very well with that other flower to create about the right colour light, so we’ll be using that, along with [item=Cindershroom]. The more we combine the less it’ll look like any singular effect, which is perfect for our purposes. Packing [item=Flameweed] leaves around the fire will let us have active fire magic going without letting it out of a controlled space, so it won’t burn things we don’t want it to be. If we put in things we learned about yesterday like [item=Blacktongue Pepper] it’ll really taste like fire, too, so I think we should do that.” (Bonus: infused with fire magic, flavour: spicy) “Everyone got that?” Calianth looks around at all the dragons, most with a golem of their own, who’ve assembled to help them complete this monstrosity in time. “Finish cooking what needs to be cooked, assemble the skeleton, get lightning flowing through it, pack it in shells, use the actual scrap parts we’ve got to add on details— though if you can, use nuts, we’ve got [item=Mire Chestnut] over here too, and carve them into appropriate shapes for nuts. Because it’s really funny. Then turn on the golems hooked up to it. Activate the fire magic and pack those parts in. Make sure it has enough strength that at least the golems can pull up its drill arm and make the drill whir.” “We’ve got a real drill harvested from a real one of these things we beat up for scraps!” Nerith assures them all. In case that hadn’t been obvious from the… giant drill… sitting on the ground… menacingly. She’s not sure. It might not have been. That part’s not actually edible. She’s already starting to help assemble it in her own way by insistently adding [item=Mimic Powder] to the Flameweed. It can only make things go well, in her opinion. “Right. We’ll be keeping it all held in place with lashings behind the creature to this cage we use for transporting larger-size dragons or familiars. So assemble it in there. We can keep it standing and swing open the cage door to reveal a golem that looks fully powered on and like a lethal threat due to the drill spinning. And yet… if you come up and chomp into it, it’s edible. Might not even taste half bad.” Calianth is already proud of the sheer scope of their efforts. It’s certainly one of their more… ambitious projects to date. With all the instructions given, the full team of dragons springs into action. As bidden, they construct a giant replica of a [item=Stone Borer] out of as much different food as is possible and conduct the appropriate tests to get its drill arm moving. Having an entire fleet of miniature golems available sure is one of the best things Lightning had ever come up with as far as anyone in this clan is concerned. It takes hours to get it all working, and yet… they do finish before the day is done, loading their monstrosity piece by piece into a giant cage and draping a black covering sheet over it all. It will certainly look like a giant, murderous golem if anyone opens the door… Probably.

70112998.png DECEPTIVE DISH: THE CAKE IS A LIE

Luxor is a good cook and an accomplished mage, but even she isn't sure how well she can disguise one food as another. She sits in contemplative silence for so long that by the time she starts paying attention again...

The pantry's mostly been emptied out.

Winging it (this is sort of thrilling, she rarely gets to be spontaneous!) Luxor gathers up what scraps she can. She's essentially scrounging through leftovers, a far cry from her dignified effort on Sunday.

This will most certainly be an interesting story to tell over tea back home.

First, Luxor takes a large mixing bowl and throws in a Bundle of Haunchmeatand thigh of Cottontail Rabbit. Next, she washes her claws and gets to work mincing them down, sprinkling in Saltperiodically.

"Hm," she titters to herself, looking at her ground meat concoction. She needs... more. But all she has left is scraps.

Perhaps...

Luxor impulsively tosses in a bag of dried Common Locustfor crunch. And then Turnipto add some freshness. And then... just to fill the bowl, some Dried Anchovies. Hopefully the fishy flavor will come second to the salt and make them into little more than seasoning. (bonus: using every food type)

Hm.

Well, it's certainly a meat slurry. But Luxor isn't trying to make Hainu food, she's trying to make dragon food.

In a separate bowl, she mixes Bone Fragments, Chipped Blackened Legbones, Wing Bones, Sparrow Skull, and Broken Wing Bones- the strangest scraps she could find (bonus: using at least 5 items that aren't listed in the food category of the database). Using a pestle, she grinds them into a fine powder- far chalkier than flour, but there's not enough of it for that to come through in the meat mix. Hopefully it'll just help the meat stick together.

Before baking the mixture, Luxor puts it in a cake pan and says a quick prayer to the Gladekeeper.

While it bakes, she renders together a sauce. Sweet, not unlike barbeque sauce, but a bit creamier, and-

Ugh.

Luxor doesn't want to avoid reality too much. She's making frosting. For her meat. It's horrible, and probably unsalvageable, but a nice thick buttercream frosting is just what this dish needs to be deceptive.

She says another prayer as she pulls the baked meat out and covers it in frosting. This prayer is a request for forgiveness- she is most definitely perverting nature right now.

She takes an extra bit of baked meat and tastes it alongside the frosting and.... ah. Yes. That is... meat and frosting. Salty and sweet (bonus: contrasting flavors). Not as much of an atrocity as she worried, but also no gourmet meal.

She holds out her spread talons over the 'cake' and attempts to freshen it with a bit of a rejuvenation charm (bonus: infuse the dish with magic somehow).

Luxor sprinkles some Winter's Delightberries on to garnish the white frosting before submitting her cake-looking monstrosity.

This is the last time she'll ever be spotted near leftovers, that much is for certain!

-Contrasting flavors (sweet and spicy, bitter and sour, etc)
-Using every food type (insects, plants, meat, fish)
-Using at least 5 Items that aren't listed in the food category of the database
-Infuse the dish with magic somehow

Pyre had been the winner last round, and she was just as willing to give it her all this round. An idea struck her, and she giggled slightly as she set up a set of bars.

Kebobs, chicken wings, mushroom wraps, crunchy beetles, salmon patties... You name it, she grilled it. And added a heaping side of sauces to boot. Some were smeared into cooked meat, sweet to contrast the savoury. (Contrasting flavors, every food type, five not fr food items)

But it needed something else. Pyre plotted for a bit, before placing a small vial next to her dishes. Baldwin might've taught her how to brew more than potions, but she knew more than he ever would now.

A slight sprinkle, and the dishes literally glowed. The sear marks grey, the meat red, the fish blue and the insects and plants yellow and green. If that wasn't eye-catching, she didn't know what was. (Magic infusion)

She also maybe put up a sign warning that those who tasted her food weren't liable for any food poisoning.. It should be fineeee, but if it wasn't. Yikes.
