Rosy maple moths [u]please[/u]
This probably sounds stupid, but I rear moths and [i]dryocampa rubicunda[/i] is one of my favorites, next to [i]rhodinia fugax diana.[/i] They're just pleasant to have around!
Also, I suggest a familiar based on this caterpillar (photo courtesy of Lukjonis on Flickr):

It's [i]cerura vinula,[/i] more commonly known as the puss moth. They look clownish, but when startled, they whip bright red flagellae out of their two "tails" and spit formic acid. Pretty charming, right?

I kept Wildwood Owlets in my hoard for so long because they were too cute to make into food. But then my food stocks got low...Please don't make me kill them again!

There's a water panther in Native American mythology that I think would look pretty cool. A Thunderbird would be awesome, too; the two animals lived in opposition to each other.
